Can Exum be fixed?

I don’t know about that comp... Exum is a good defender but Roberson is much better and is strong as hell... I don’t think Exum will be as great.
You are 100% correct. I don't think Exum will ever be as good of a defender as Roberson. Mainly, I was just trying to point out that Roberson's defense warrants his poor offense. So many in this forum want to bash Exum because he's not finishing or running the offense all that well. In my opinion, we don't need that as much since Mitchell has emerged. We just need Exum to be as good of a defender as possible (not quite as good as Roberson) and almost average to average on offense (which is much better than Roberson).

I think the lowest hanging fruit is he needs to get stronger. He looks like a ***** when he drives but i think its more physical than mental.

Reproductive science says yes!

Good post.

Someone is going to overpay for him. At the right price sure, he looked fire with DM45 in summer league but lets see it in the playoffs. Put up or shut up time for Exum in Utah.

He's just not a floor general. 3 turnovers in 9 minutes, 1 assist. One good defensive play on a dude who put up over 40

Exums shot was looking decent in preseason and even regular season. It didn't have hitches and he had some confidence in it. He lost confidence in shooting and it is killing him in the post season. He is being dared to shoot but refuses and when he does he hesitates. If he can hit open 3s most of the rest of his game will be fine.

Exum needs playing time and lots of it. Hopefully he can get that the beginning of next season.

I am okay with playing him and seeing what we get each game in the postseason and base his playing time on that.

Dante can improve a lot of things that will be game changers... handle and shot at the top of the list.

Even if he was a good spot up shooter he’d space the floor and would attack close outs quite well.

I’d like to see him attack from the 45 more when he can catch it on the fly and go. Just dribbling down and beating people on straight line drives will only work so many times.

I’m really encouraged by his finishing... it still looks awkward as hell sometimes but it used to look like he would get to the rim with no plan and just throw it up.

The biggest problem is he needs reps... games are too important now to be pati my and he needs to stay healthy. I don’t see him getting anything more than the MLE next year which we would happily match. I think we’ve built up some goodwill with Dante and he will want to stick around. He may want to bolt for a starting gig if there is one out there... not sure. I’d love to keep him and I think it’d be a good long term decision for both parties to figure it out.

I think he’d be better playing with a Neto or Rubio or Ingles for a while and let them get us into our sets. He should be in attack mode and do less thinking. He is painfully slow at getting us into our sets sometimes and it drives Quin nuts.

Exum can be that other guy that breaks the paint and gets the defense rotating. He’s a guy that raises the ceiling of this team and I don’t think he will get an albatross contract and may turn out to be a bargain on a long term deal.

If he makes $10 or less on a 3 year deal where we control either year 3 or year 4, I think that's a good deal for both sides.
