Can Exum be fixed?

I remember watching that possession thinking...Exum could be the best perimeter defender on the team.

If only he played like that every play.

This is my biggest knock on him. He has a couple of wow! moments a game, and then can disappear. If he could bring the exceptional effort on every play, I could live with some of the other mistakes he makes. Consistency is the key to his development.

I doubt he will be anywhere near his level and they are just different players but at least put in a picture when they are the same age.

I dont think they are far off physically at the same age as this picture is as of Pippen. Although I doubt Exum gets as strong and large as Pippen did mostly because their style of play and position is so different. It is also a different era of basketball that is less physical.

Ron if you can find a picture of Exum's dad when he played at NC with Jordan, same skinny rangy build, but by the time he came out here to play in his mid 20's he was thick.

I'd love to see the Jazz try and develop Dante into a Ben Simmons light. With his shooting motion & 3 point percentage I really don't want him shooting 3's but if he only shot 3's when absolutely wide open then I'm fine with it but don't let him shoot 3's when defenders are closing him down. His best attributes are his length and speed so use that to his advantage. I'd like to see him tighten and clean up his dribbling and improve his vision. He has the speed to blow past defenders and should use that to either drive and kick or attack the rim when big men aren't quick enough to rotate.

And how old was Pippen in this photo
Pippen would have been around 26-28 in that photo.. Although not sure why we are comparing to Pippen..considering Donovan Mitchell is 1 year younger than Exum and they are currently a world apart in terms of skill, presence and athleticism.

The only fix he needs is confidence, getting dragged immediately after a mistake and being sat for remainder of games clearly messes with him and he doesn't possess the mental strength to overcome this.

Can you sign and trade restricted FA's? I think that's the best outcome for Exum and Jazz.

But what if his next coach sits him when he makes mistakes? Will he have the mental strength to handle that?

Can exum be fixed ? The Answer is no if he stays in Utah. Snyder has ruined his nba career so far by not allowing Dante to make mistakes on the court.

If Dante has a proper coach like Popovich he will realise his full pontential and become a star in the nba.

I've used this comparison before, but here we go:

Andre Roberson
6'7" SG
5 Years experience
269 career starts
Career 4.6ppg, highest season average has been 6.6ppg
48% fg, 26% 3p
4 rpg, 1 apg, -1 spg, -1 bpg
Salary averages $10 million per season

Even though they have 3 hall-of-famers and a great center, OKC really missed Roberson down the stretch. With him, they probably beat us in the first round. He is what you would call "invaluable" to their team.

Dante Exum
6'6" PG/SG
4 Years experience (3 if you count that he didn't play in 15-16)
67 career starts
Career 5.7 ppg, highest season average has been 8.1 ppg
40% fg, 31% 3p
2 rpg, 2 apg, -1 spg, -1 bpg
Salary TBD in summer 2018

At the very least, Exum could be a Roberson type player for us. Roberson has a 2 year head start and has been a starter for a while now. He knows his role. Exum hasn't had a role carved out for him yet. However, if we don't trust him to run the offense, just do with him what OKC does with Roberson - limit his touches. Mitchell is emerging as a PG/SG anyway. If Exum grows offensively, then great. Regardless, we will need perimeter defenders like him if we are going to contend in the coming years.

Not best comparison as Exum is a PG, who by definition needs to be a key part of the offense, and Roberson is a defensive-minded 2-guard. Roberson’s offense is just a bonus.

Sure he can be fixed

Sounds like Trey Burke’s mom.

Was it Snyder’s fault that he’s been hurt two out of his four years. Did he start him his rookie year?

Tough to play through big mistakes in the playoffs.

I thought prospect Exum had a better feel for the game. Apparently not. If he could gain either some basketball skills, or the ability to play at different speeds he can stick in a rotation cuz his size and speed. So far 0/2.

Uh the point which was blatantly obvious is that if MVP is going to compare him to Pippen he should do it at the same age. No comparison with Donovan, different body types. Some guys can bulk up younger, some don’t until their mid 20s. eg Hayward at 21-22 to 27-28. Exum is that type, his dad was the same. He’s going to be a late bloomer

I'm just saying that the likelihood is a Rodney Hood physique might also be his top end..We won't know til we get there. but all we do know is he needs to put in a crap ton more work than he already has.

i saw his dad play a lot .. he was way thicker in his mid 20's than when he was at college. The likelihood is that he'll fill out a bit more. He also was considered in a similar category to Hayward as far as how his body reacted to training.
He's not great now but i still think he'll be really good by 25-26
