Can The Ainges Resist Zion?

I don't know what to make about Zion's personal life. But basketball wise I think he's really diminished from his peak. He's really more like a very good bench peace, especially given his health. Think I'd rather be the team that signs him after he's waived than the team that trades for him.

I had this thought as well. If he is actually waived... what is his FA market like. Wouldn't that be a better contract. He may not choose you but I can't imagine the offers are amazing. I was truly looking at it as a stealth tank move... but now he is actually playing so IDK.
 
I guarantee you there is absolutely 0 chance the Jazz give up Nurkic & Svi (plus the 2026 top 8 pick that would go away) for Zion.

I don't think he'll have much of a tank effect. He'll be more motivated to play games than just about any player in the league. Atp, tanking just comes down to the FO being smart and not scared with how they manage Lauri and Key. I think our young players are good enough that there's not a huge drop off if we end up playing them...which is good, but also why you don't mess around at any point.

I'm going to stay mad at Presti for being Karen, but it kind of embodies who he is. He min maxes every detail. No advantage is too small to give up and he's shameless enough to complain about the exact things he did himself. There's no ego or pride involved, just business. The Jazz don't operate in the same way and it shows.

The B-tier organizations have a much clearer path to success by tanking well, drafting well and developing well. The Jazz of Ryan Smith is not a B-tier organization.

Nah. I do think Ainges learned the hard way with that Collins trade which luckily didn't bite them too hard although they wasted valuable cap space that could've been used in better ways. They need to stay the course. No more reclamation types even if they can be had with expiring contracts. Ofc in my little world the Jazz find a way to keep their pick this year too.

I legit think he called the league offices but also made some calls around the media as well. It was such a weird reaction to us sitting Lauri for a groin injury... which I heard was actually legitimate from Ken Clayton in some DMs on twitter.

Its just so weird we are such choir boys that we refuse to give the middle finger to the league at all. Maybe the conspiracy theories are real lol and they have assurances from the league. Like Presti's whining actually worked and now we are truly playing it somewhat straight. I hate how soft we are.

I'm shocked the Knicks fans and FO haven't thrown their hands up about the Wizards.

I think the outrage is really just Presti alerting his podcast bro network. That's just the kind of thing he does, every detail is important to him. He even has fans stand outside at the airport from "central casting". I totally believe he is creating "outrage", I just have a hard time believing it's real at a league or fan level.

1. Who ever actually cares about what the Jazz are doing?
2. How does this affect gambling or national TV games (the money makers)?
3. Why is the focus on a team not even close to the top of the tank race?
4. Why is the focus on a team significantly outperforming expectations?
5. Who actually wants the Thunder to have another pick besides the Thunder?
6. Why is only one team under scrutiny when we know more than one team is tanking?
7. Why are other teams applauded in the same nerdy, podcast world circles?

If this is actually coming from internal league concern, all they've done is Streisand Effect the Jazz tanking. Nobody has ever cared about a situation like his unless it's the actual fans of said team or a team with stakes on the pick. I don't believe there is outrage and I don't believe the league or fans actually care about the "outrage" whether it's real or not.

As always, it's not just one thing or another. The Jazz FO/Ownership knows what's best for the franchise and how to do it, but they have to weigh the pros on cons. I still think they are highly motivated by their egos and also just like to enjoy the moment. I think the "outrage" may have just been enough to tip the scales. Or maybe they themselves know it's BS and are just using it as an excuse to lean into the pride/ego side of thigns.

If all the Jazz reporters come and say something along the lines of "The FO hands were tied" I'm just gonna call BS. It's so unrealistic for this to be an issue the league or fanbase (as a whole) care about. If we're talking "conspiracy", I think the league would be just fine with not letting the Thunder have another pick and the fan sentiment would be pretty much unanimous in wanting the Jazz to have it versus the Thunder. I'm more inclined to believe that the league would rather look the other way and have people stfu about tanking.
