Can the Dante Exum Experiment Please End

Exum is one of the quickest players in the league 6'6" and above. With his skillset incremental improvements can go a long way.

Ya'll are as finicky as a pack of soap opera drama queens! Seriously though... he looked pretty good for 2 or 3 weeks this season. He is on a slump. He will be back. He's young and Mack isn't a major upgrade. Mack has as many turnovers as he has assists. Mack isn't terrible, I think he has done fine. But Dante doesn't have to be the best player on the team to be valuable. He has the tools to be an awesome player. He is just down.

If we followed the guidance of posts like this, we would sell low and buy high every week. Dante will get there.

Dante... Hold on:

(That was just the cheesiest HOLD ON video that popped up on Youtube)

Exum needs time and patience to build confidence in his game and develop his skills.

He wasn't ready to play in Nba in his rookie season and lost the entire sophomore season.

In my opinion he should be the backup point guard without having too much pressure to lose his minutes. He need consistent minutes to play with confidence. The coach trust is very important for a player.

He has to focus on defense and dish assists. It seems like he feels the pressure to contribute on offense.

Anyway better to trade Mack.

They (you?) said the same about Enes Kanter.

They said the same about CJ Miles.

Jazz fans love that "potential" even if there never was any there.

Trey Burke will thrive once he gets out from under Quin Snyder's system. - franklin

Also, frank has wanted to trade Exum for a while now, so at least this isn't a knee jerk thread. However, when you want to trade Exum and keep Trey Burke, perhaps some salt is needed.

Ok, so for those of you who are unfamiliar with the one and done rule, back in 2005 the NBA added the rule to protect owners from themselves in drafting players right out of high school. The rule mandates that players play at least 1 year in college. For whatever reason, and maybe someone can help me out here(stitches?), the rule doesn't apply to international players.

Now, before the rule, teams used to draft project players that they knew weren't ready to play in the league, but looked to have great potential. Some of these players didn't really even see the floor for 2 or 3 years. Jermaine O'Neal is a player who didn't play a whole lot in his first 3 years, and then blew up after he was traded.

Utah drafted Deshawn Stevenson right out of High School with high hopes he'd become the next Kobe. This never worked out, and it was because of this that Utah became gun shy of drafting kids right out of high school. In 2004 Utah drafted Kris Humphries one spot ahead of Al Jefferson, and Kirk Snyder one spot ahead of Josh Smith. In other words, they just missed on 2 much better players because of their fear of drafting kids out of high school.

The point I'm trying to make with all this, is that people seem to have forgotten what it means to draft a project player. Exum basically came from high school to the NBA, without ever playing college ball, so there's really no point in drafting a player like that if you're not willing to give them time to develop. You most certainly don't give up on them after a year and a month.

I wouldn't be surprised if Utah limits his minutes for the next year and a half, hoping to avoid someone trying to steal him in FA. As it is, if Exum were to blow up before that, we would have to get rid of another core piece to be able to afford him.

The only way he gets traded right now, is if he's a throw in (in a bigger deal). His trade value isn't high enough to trade him alone right now.

If only we had Corbin and Burke we would be great right? Trade Exum and Snyder for those 2 and we win chips for years.

How many games do you think the Jazz should toss this year for the sake of developing Exum? Because right now whenever he's in the game the Jazz consistently get slaughtered.

Exum has been pretty bad at times, but it's gotten to the point that he's becoming the scapegoat for our losses, which is unfair IMO. Most of our losses have come when nobody on the team can hit the broadside of a barn.

Also, for those who have been trashing him and calling him a bust(not you), Exum started for Utah for half the season in his rookie year, in which Utah had one of the best records in the league for that stretch. The kid has already been a contributor to a winning team.

I think playing Mack over Exum makes sense right now, but Quin should be able to find minutes for Dante as well, without giving away the whole game.

So does Neto. Both are straight trash. We need to clear a roster spot for someone as good as or better than Mack.

They said the same about Kobe in LA after his first year. Toronto though T-Mac was a bust after 2 years. John Stockton should have been traded since we had better players at his position and he started slow. Nash was Trash right?

Why not just keep Mack at the back up spot if we are trading for someone as good as him? Do you not think Hill will play much? Or we need to pay more for a 3rd/4th PG?

They also said that about a thousand other players who actually turned out to be busts. :)
