I think Kanter has proved that his personality and immaturity off the court was his biggest issue. We have not seen that at all from Exum. He also showed here that he only wanted to play offense and didnt want to put in full effort. None of those are things anyone is saying about Exum or we are seeing.

If Kanter played both ways and put in full effort here I am sure he would still be around and we would be happy about it.

But yes Kanter is a good one to bring up. We didnt give him consistent role or minutes. We traded him for away for less than he was worth.
 
Maybe Jazz should trade Exum for Nerlens Noel

Snyder can't coach a uptempo imaginative offense which Dante is suited for and Snyder has chosen who he wants and trusts to play at PG.
Noel is insurance for Favors and he fits Snyders style he wants to play
Dante gets to play PG and won't be afraid to make mistakes that clearly is the case with Snyder.
 
This board is all over the place. He gets benched and has a bad game and he is a bust.

He just needs consistent minutes in the backup PG spot. He can play as well as Mack can and even if he is slightly worse not he is not going to cost us that many games and he will develop to be better than Mack pretty soon. At that point any hurt he did will be off set by helping the team win. Exum took a full year off last year at a critical time from a major injury. It will take time to get back up to speed and trusting his knee and decision making. He is also starting one night, no minutes the next and playing multiple positions.

I know we all want our 21 year old player with 0 college experience and 1 year NBA experience to be a good player but it takes time. Stockton took time to develop and was inconsistent early as did many players who ended up being good.
 
There were so many bad performances last night. I've never seen the Jazz play worse interior defense than they did last night. Miami penetrated into the paint with ease possession after possession scoring at will. Whoever was guarding Dragic or Johnson were basically schooled all night long. Exum, however, was the worst of all, IMHO, and if I had to single out any player who cost us the game, it was him. His inability to guard at the 1, inability to put the ball int the basket, and his very untimely turnovers were killers. He looked like a deer caught in headlights.

Then of course there were the asinine clear path fouls by Gobert and Ingles. For the love of Christ, just let the guy score the fast break. It's better than two free throws and a possession, both of which (if I remember correctly) resulted in 4 point swings.

I'm increasingly souring on him. It was probably a mistake to start him last night. Player development is a much lower priority this year, I want to win this year and keep GH in the fold and make the damn playoffs.
 
If he hasn't made significant improvement by middle of next year I say cut your losses and move on.

Of course, Exum is just returning from a torn ACL and is getting back into shape. It's expected that his performance is day and night. But it's the first half of the season. He's gotta find 10 min where he can handle the ball a lot and involve him in backscreens constantly. He's soooo much longer than his defender are. One lazy switch/navigation of a screen/communication error(which btw happen a lot at the beginning of the season) and he's an easy find close to the basket. It's not like a lot of teams have multiple bigs with rim protection value playing at the same time.

Give him 20 now, let him find his groove. If he's still away from being a contributor by midseason, gradually reduce his minutes towards the playoff to 10-15 and roughly 5-8 in the playoffs, where you give him one 2nd quarter or late 3rd/early 4th quarter window where he can go all out.
Then reevaluate next fall. But not giving out development minutes in November-January is ****ing disappointing.

The game I watched last nite Exum didn't even play the 4th quarter when Dragic went off for 14 points,he actually played Dragic best. But what I do agree on is his piss poor 3 pt shooting,but why is he constantly stuck in 3 pt territory and not being able to do any backdoors or cuts through the paint ?
 
How many games do you think the Jazz should toss this year for the sake of developing Exum? Because right now whenever he's in the game the Jazz consistently get slaughtered.
 
I am no fan of Exum at all but giving up on him right now is not a right move. His value now is lower then bag of chips, might as well let him play through his rookie contract and see what he can learn from Hill. There is still hope he can reach his ceiling (prime Shawn Liwingston) which is good for back up PG. The bigger question will be what to do with him after rookie contract is up if he did not live to his hype? Let him go how numerous other Jazz draftees? Or trade for some picks?
