Can the Dante Exum Experiment Please End

rondo had help.

he played with some amazing finishers. case in point.

Rondo in his prime was a hell of a playmaker. Exum has yet to make a single play for anyone. Hell, when does he attack the rim?

Who? None of the Boston players were amazing finisher when they all teamed up and he played with Kendrick ****ing Perkins.

Gobert/Favors/Hayward can all finish as well as a lot of players in the NBA. Hayward leads the NBA in alley-oops among players who arent PF/C's.

Exum attacking the rim with the intention of passing is pretty much ALL he does.

WOW!!

Impatience is the key word here.

A 21 year old coming off a serious ACL injury and some of you guys are branding him a bust. How many guys play great basketball directly after suffering an ACL injury? I'm guessing some of you have absolutely no idea how hard it is mentally to gain the confidence back after such an injury.

His lateral movement is probably the hardest thing he will have to deal with, but give him some time and it will come back.

Overall he is definitely improved on his rookie season. Another preseason in the gym along with more experience and exum will be primed next season to show what he can do.

C'mon guys. Exum stays. We have too much to lose to trade him now for terrible value. Unlike Burke, Exum actually as the build, athleticism and potential to evolve into something valuable. Even if he just becomes Shawn Livingston, that is valuable.

We need to keep Exum and trade the house for Ben Simmons. I would trade it all.

Positive: he won't cost much in RFA at this rate

Not true. He's going to cost at least the rate of a good bench player. There's teams out there that are a good enough match to try and overbid.

I'll say it again, players as tall and as quick as Exum are a scarce commodity in the NBA. Some older team would love to roll the dice.

This wasn't true before the bad game he had, after which he got benched. He was attacking the rim a ton more than in his rookie year.

I think Quin mishandled Exum in this stretch. They wanted him to be more aggressive, he was, but his D suffered a bit and instead of encouraging him and telling him "That's good, now put it all together and start playing D like you can", he decided to go punish him and yank him out of the game any time he made a mistake and after one of the games Quin said "he should stop looking for his offense and focus on D"... Really Quin? Really? We waited for 2 years for him to show some balls and attack the paint, we waited for him to realize he can go anywhere he wants on the floor and just as he was starting to experiment with moves in and around the paint you gonna punish him for it?

Let's remember his games prior to him getting in Quin's doghouse:

vs Miami - 10/3/1 3/10FG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRpNe243JKw

vs Memphis - 9/3/2 4/9FG (pretty much everything here was him attacking the rim)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbPzyOrR9Uk

vs Chicago - 14/4/2 5/12 FG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpvbU5cl_C4

vs Houston - 10/1/1 4/11 FG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ml53_05GQI

vs Denver - 10/6/2 5/12 FG (again - everything here was him attacking the paint)

Again - those are the 5 games exactly before he was put in the doghouse. In every single one of those he had at least one finish at the rim. Watch those and tell me he was not attacking the rim. That's BS. I posted a while ago his drives stats - he made more finishes on drives in the first 15 games this year than during his entire rookie season. If there was something he was struggling with in that stretch it was knocking down the 3, not attacking the paint. Are those perfect games? Are they even great or good? Maybe not, but Shelvin Mack wasn't playing any better at that point. The difference is Quin treats Shelvin Mack like he's Steph Curry and Dante like a little child. How many times has he yanked him out after 1-2 minutes on the floor for a mistake or two? How many times has he done it to Mack after he dribbles the ball out of bounds without even facing pressure?

Exum has had some good games and some awful games. He will obviously improve. I think a lot of the improvements will be in the realm of both experience and confidence.

His shot looks better than his rookie year and all he needs is to make improvements, receive good coaching and learn from experience.

People are harder on Exum than on Hood - who has had some awful games (and some nice games) as well.

Yes - Exum was a 5th pick but he's also only 21, missed all of last season and is coming off a major injury. Exum was playing better earlier in the season - at least he had a string of good games. He's been inconsistent, but so have his minutes.

Dante will be fine. The more he plays and the stronger he gets, the better he will play.

People forget Mack helps us win games. Sometimes he comes in and scores in a rush or creates for his teammates, changes games. Also don't forget how much we improved last year when he was handed the starting PG job. He vastly exceeded expectations. Once this season started he found himself as the 3rd PG and struggled early but is now picking up. Dude is fearless and competitive. He might have his flaws but he is pretty good as a backup PG.

If I was Snyder, I'd play Mack over Dante.. no question about it because UTA needs Ws now, the rebuilding is over.

I always said this year should actually be considered Dante's rookie year and hence it'd be a good idea to keep the expectations low given he had had 0 experience before the NBA. He needs development time obviously, something we can't afford now. He should be sent to the DL if he can't recover soon or Burks comes back. DL helped Rudy, may help Dante too.
