Can We Just Flipping Sign House Please!

It’s pretty terrible and with NAW moving to Portland and things happening so fast, I don’t think they fully understood the ramifications of cutting $3M from this year’s cap to add $5M next year. No way they pull the trigger when they see it in that light. Just wrap it up and say “we like Joe and he’s a big part of this franchise,” because really, the real money move (compared to what we did) was to just let Joe expire.
I’m also wondering if they end up not converting Forrest because of tax implications… would love to hear the local media drool over how smart that is and how it wasn’t about money.

I listened to the the interview on 1280, funnily enough Joe referred to to Utah as home, still I would not be shocked if he already has an offer from Portland for the next two years. They seem to be pretty high on having him around, gonna be hard to see him on the court for another team. Think if the jazz made him a two year offer he'd almost certainly take it, wait and see guys.

I think the argument will be how House “just blew the socks off all expectation” and they really wanted to give him a chance moving forward.

In any case, I wasn’t originally expecting us to convert Forrest. After we dumped Oni and looked to do the staggering 10-day dance (which we still did with House), I figured if nobody stuck we’d convert Forrest. But now that the spot is covered, I’m leaning toward us not converting. And I don’t think there will be a rationalization because that’s going to be a really specific piece of information that’s going to be easy to ignore. If it’s brought up, you get a hand wave about House, reference to us keeping RFA rights on Trent (which would have been the case anyway but this is sleight of hand), and then referencing something something about tight playoff rotations.

Forrest is an NBA rotation player.
Yeah… he’s on a two way… they need to convert him to a regular deal if he’s going to be playoff eligible. I think they do it… but it will cost some tax.

I think they do it… just looked up the rule and if they do ot any time before the last day of the regular season he’s eligible for the postseason. Probably wait for the last day but I’m not sure how the pro-rata cap hit works. It would be the biggest penny pinch of all.

“We’re saving our pennies to re-sign Joe, especially as we now know there’s another suitor.”

Not to mention maintaining the relationship/history/culture that I think is really important. Joe’s off-court value is kind of the only thing that explains the idea that Portland are going to re-sign him next ear (outside of Portland just trying to stick it to us).

I’m calling for Smith and Ainge’s heads if Joe comes back to basketball better than he left it and is in another jersey. They’re already on my **** list but I will be competing with Cy for most insane hater.

Last thing: NAW sucks. The list of guys with good measurables that don’t make it in the league is thousands of names long. The debt owed to him is gonna create - yet again - greater costs than benefits. All for the honor of gutting one of the core cultural elements of this team and sullying the reputation of the organization. It’s ****ing stupid and ugly.

I was curious to know if there’s any hold-overs in their FO from the days of when they signed Millsap to that front-loaded offer-sheet to screw us, then a year later snagged Matthews.

That whole dynamic is the first thing I thought of as all of this has been happening. But also… they absolutely nailed the assessment that these were players worth going hard after.

Ingles coming back is pretty likely. How he plays when he returns is up to what condition he comes back in. If he works hard and gets in great shape like he did a few years ago for us he will be solid again and worth more than the min. If he comes in rehabbed but poor shape he is worth having for the min as a cheerleader and locker room guy. I think he will be motivated this off-season though with the break he has had.
