What's new

Can we just release Burke and Hayward?

The Jazz coaches have seemed to accept the fact that Burke has hit the rookie wall. But the rookie wall is much more mental than it is physical. Burke needs to push back. He needs to get in the paint at least a dozen times a game (when was the last time the kid took a frickin' free throw). Push the ball whenever possible and stop settling for jump shots.

To say defenses have made an adjustment is only half true. Burke has stopped doing the things that made him successful earlier in the season.

Marvin didn't suck in "Alfense". Marvin sucked as a SF who was defended on the perimeter. Stretch 4's work because most big men don't want to be stuck on the 3pt line contesting shots.

Agreed that our offense needs to do a better job getting easy buckets. None of that is Hayward's fault though. He actually does the best job of creating offense for others on the team.

he sucked being a 5th option in a 1 option offense

Good post, but i have heard that the new cba has such stiff penalties that alot of the teams that would normally snatch up the good free agents now will not be able to.

Dont know how its gonna work yet but thats just what im hearing, so maybe utah will be able to land a better free agent than normal next summer and retain burks and kanter........ but not if we overpay hayward.

Agree. And that's one reason KOC and Lindsey have been so determined to completely clear the books of long-term contracts. Not having long-term contracts meant DL could go the direction he did this summer when asset accumulation was more important than overspending for the players who were FA's.

Stars are always going to get paid. But the new CBA is going to squeeze the next tier of players (good example is Paul Millsap). Fewer teams are going to be willing to exceed the tax limit, especially if it puts them in the classification of "repeat offender." There should be some pretty good players available every year. If a team like Utah has cap space, they can step in and outbid most others and still not "overpay" for that player. We did all right the last time Utah had a ton of cap space and brought in Boozer and Okur as FA's.

That's why I believe Lindsey shoud turn over every rock and consider letting Hayward walk...IF there is a better FA out there and IF a team steps up and offers a ton of money for Gordon. SF is the EASIEST position to replace in the NBA. And at SG, there is a star sitting on the bench who can move into the lineup.

Hayward for 10-12 million, or Evan Turner for 5-6 million? I'm not sure career 3pt% advantage of 6% ( 31% to 37%) is enough to justify spending double.

I don't know what to think of the Jazz. So many unanswered questions.

The deeper this hole Hayward gets in the less he's gonna be worth.

At this point, I'm about ready to turn in my Hayward 4 leader card.

Burke is a ROTY candidate? Seriously?
Only in a class that has been the worst in recent memory. MCW has it won hands-down. I'm all for upgrading over a PG who can't shoot and can't get to the hoop.

you obviously never seen sixers play until last night.
but i do agree that mcw is a clear leader in ROTY because trey's obvious rookie wall.

Neither player can shoot. They should just say that due to the lack of qualifying statistics, ROTY will not be awarded this season. This rookie class has been embarrassingly bad.

MCW is averaging 17/7/5 but on 39%/29% shooting.
Burke is at 13/6/3 on 37%/34%.

And those are the two leading ROTY candidates. Absolutely pitiful!
