Carroll Done For Summer League

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Weezur again.

He sure came across as one when he played 44 minutes against Dallas in our 2OT win, putting up 15 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds @ 50% from the field. Was probably one of our biggest games of this season, with exception to the Phoenix game. Im not sure what more you could ask from an end-of-the-bench guy.

Not to mention the fact that he almost single-handedly kept us in certain games in the playoffs for periods of time. The guy doesn't have any great weaknesses, and is by no means a liability when he's out on the floor. He hits open shots, hustles, rebounds, and plays team-ball. Yeah, Id love Brandon Rush, but Carroll is more than good enough for now.

The days he can shoot he is a plus player. Those days are just few and far between.

I wonder if KOC and the coaches liked him determining he was done with summer league before consulting the team's trainers or doctors?

I don't want to say I'm excited by this because I'm not and that would be overstating things, especially since I'm sure it's just a minor "injury," but I do like this for lack of a better word. I'm more in the camp that we need to play Hayward, Williams, and Burks about 30 minutes each, wins and losses, be damned. This injury, if it lingers or gets worse could do that. Otherwise, Burks may just be relegated to 18-22 minutes, decent time, but not enough for him to truly get the time I feel needs to develop his craft.
Huh? we're talking about Demarre Carroll, not Josh Howard (or CJ Miles).
Marvin Williams averaged 26 mins/per last season coming off the bench for Atlanta. Hayward played 30 mins and Burks averaged 16. Carroll got 14 in the regular season and 18 in the playoffs. So even without CJ and Raja, Carroll was never a major part of the rotation.

What should we expect from the 2/3 this year?
SF - Williams (26); Hawyard (12); Carroll (10)
SG - Hayward (18); Burks (30)

Now that's assuming everyone plays all 82 games. We know that rarely happens. Carroll may get few minutes when Burks, Hayward and Williams are all healthy. He'll play a lot more when someone misses a game. And he (and Murphy) will get garbage time minutes when there's a blowout.

Yes, he shouldn't have gone that far, but if he really turned it hard, I think he knows he's not going to be able to play on it by Saturday a.m.

well you're pointing to one game. i'm looking at the fact that he shot 37.4% last year (and is below 40% for his career), averaged fewer than 1 assist per game with 2.5 rebounds, and posted a PER that is a hair better than raja bell's. his 4.8 ppg were a career high, and his per-36 numbers indicate that he'll never average double figures, even if he finds a team to make him a regular starter.

the guy is a hustle-and-energy guy. there's nothing wrong with that, but let's not get confused into thinking he's lamar odom.

this is the most hilarious part. kept us in playoff games?? we lost by an average of 16.0 points per contest, so i'm sure what games he was keeping us in. and he has plenty of weaknesses, starting with the fact that he's barely an NBA player.

this is the matt harpring syndrome: we see a guy take a charge or come up with a backcourt steal and we confuse him for a game changer because he "plays hard." you could replace carroll with a hard-working d-league guy and barely notice the difference.

Game 4, the game the Jazz would have won if ANYBODY on the roster could have hit a 3.

I feel a little dirty agreeing with Nerd, but to your point, Carroll is a hard working D-league guy. That the Jazz gave him a contract is a joke. That said, he's a scrub so not a big deal.

I already like the Washington guy better than Carroll, not that I think he's the answer. But renting a veteran 3 who can play a little is a much better idea than giving Carroll a rotation job out of camp.

Carroll was a player that the Jazz liked but not enough to either trade up for or use their first round pick on. Kevin likes to keep an eye on that type of player, and get them if he can. (an extreme example is Marvin Williams)

Heh, now that Carroll is out, maybe that opens up a spot for Jeremy Evans????

I tend to disagree with Nerd, to a degree -- No, he's not Lamar Odom, but he did come up big in several games late in the season. And yes, there was one of the playoff games where he singlehandedly led a huge comeback that we could've won. He's never going to be an All-Star, but he still has room for growth, and he showed that last season.

I would bet you are vastly overestimating the seriousness of this injury. By the time the season starts it will be a distant memory and it will never have any impact at all upon rotations.

Absurd. The discussion was whether he was an NBA player or not. Who mentioned anything about Lamar Odom?

Watch game 4, then come back to me. I couldn't give two ****s about your random-*** PER values, which are obviously meaningless with a person who gets as few minutes as DeMarre Carroll.

Wesley Matthews had a 12.3 PER in his rookie season with the Jazz.

Fesenko had a 5.8 PER with Utah in 2011, and a ~30 PER with indiana this season. There were clear games were Fesenko kept our team in contention, regardless of his low PER scores. He played worse in Indiana, BUT NO, WE MUST USE PER AS THE ULTIMATE DETERMINER TO A PLAYERS WORTH, PARTICULARLY IF HE BARELY AVERAGES MINUTES!!

In the end of the day, the Jazz picked up his option, and see value in him particularly as NBA player because they have much better ways of "analyzing player talent" than looking at a meaningless advanced statistic

Last post on this topic.

Fesenko, a player who was said to have changed the entire complexion of the Jazz/Nuggets 2010 Playoff series, averaged a PER of THREE.

I rest my case.

Locke roasted Carroll in his pod cast. He also said he has a weird contract and the Jazz haven't yet picked up his option. He was touting old Jazz players like Ronnie Brewer or Korver being much better than Carroll.

The jazz have until the 13th to waive him or else his contract becomes guaranteed for next season.

That is a very interesting piece of information. I thought that he was already picked up. It is making a lot more sense why he is at summer league right now.

Update: on his twitter, Demarre says he'll try to get on the court tomorrow. Maybe KOC persuaded him to take it a day at a time.
