We always are. Ugh.

I literally hate all SUVs, save for the 100% off-road ones (Mercedes G, Land-Cruiser, Defender, etc.)

My family did 7000kms of driving last summer in a 4dr Peugeot 508 wagon with a 2.2l Diesel engine. 50, 43, 23, 21, and a 13 year old. Fit perfectly fine, along with six-weeks worth of luggage.

They have puegot in Canada? Or was that on your Europe trip? I love me some diesel cars. Kind of obsessed with them.

Trip to Europe. Europe is so ahead with their wagon prevalence. Drove like a dream, but had some weird electrical-glitches.


The notion of not being able to tow with them is overrated-- my dad rowed trailers with our 1.9l TDI '97 VW Passat when I was a kid. That Passat is awesome-- 1200-1300km on a 70L fill-up.

no doubt you can tow with a diesel. It's not about the pulling power, there is plenty of that. The problem is the brakes and suspension. The wagons and passenger cars are only rated to tow about 1500 pounds which is pretty insignificant. If you really want to tow anything even moderately heavy, you need the suspension and braking power that SUVs and trucks come with.

Yup. If I'm going with my camper or boat (which isn't even heavy), I'm screwed going downhill with a smaller vehicle. And considering I live in a fairly mountainous area, there's a decent amount of downhill passes.

Wagons work for some people, I would prefer more room than that. People who obsess over what others drive are weird to me. I don't get pissed off when I see a tiny Prius or a jacked up dodge...it's just somebody's preference.

Test drove this. It was fun and zippy and surprisingly more roomy than I expected. Could even fit the 4 of us for short trips, even with my nearly 6'4" son riding shotgun. Thinking about buying one. Still looking at Skoda's though. They pack a ton of tech into a comfy and affordable package. Like this one:
