On Celtics forums they are talking about how much Exum sucks and how glad they are to have drafted Smart. We'll see in a couple of years you fools!

Lol, Dante was actually better at creating offense even in this game. He had some nice passes but pretty much every single open shot he created was missed. Smart will have real trouble creating offense in the league...but he's awesome at D.

I'm starting to fear that Exum was a wasted pick. I wonder how the draft would've turned out for him if he had worked out with more than just the Bucks/Sixers/Magic or if he had gone to college for a year.

Feel free to talk me out of this train of thought.

The only thing I worry about with him right now is his aggression, but he's been getting better with that lately. If he still looks timid and hesitant to attack next year at half-season, I'd start worrying...

I see a long and quick PG with great court vision and a lot of tenacity on the defensive end. Worst case scenario is a pass first PG who plays good D and can give you 10 pts 10 ast a few rebounds a game. So I doubt it will be a wasted pick, but he might not live up to the hype. On the other hand, as he gets stronger and more comfortable with the game, he might become good at attacking the rim. He will most definitely get stronger, and according to everyone, he has nice work ethic and is eager to learn and improve. If he manages to learn to take advantage of his length and speed to get to the rim and draw fouls, then he will be an awesome PG.

But time will tell.

That GIF is destroying my computer for some reason! Took me a couple of minutes just to be able to type this.

i think Smart is real close to what he'll be long term. Serviceable & acceptable but that's his ceiling. They can keep him. More than confident the difference between the two will grow more apparent the next 2-3 years.

Yah, I have a similar feeling for Smart. I think he can possibly become a better shooting Tony Allen. He will be a monster defensively, but I don't see the potential in offense. He doesn't have quick first step and he doesn't have good hesitation moves... with him everything is straight line offense. I think Dante has much higher ceiling offensively, but his defense will probably never get to the level of Smart's defense.

The thing I worry about is that he's shooting 32% from downtown on the season (despite roughly none of those shots being remotely contested), and almost refuses to shoot from mid-range - which is actually probably good because he's shooting 13.8% on 10+ foot 2-pointers. 62% from the line, as well. I also worry about his poor ball-handling and the fact that he hasn't demonstrated any sort of ability to explode to the basket (which was supposed to be his main strength). Possibly the most damning of all is that he hasn't shown much (if any) improvement between summer league and today.

Somebody please talk me out of this doubt.
