Your posts are a lot more whiny in tone than mine. Read the last few pages if you don't believe me. You're the one throwing the most direct insults and launching generalizations-- not I. I just don't give a **** for your condescending bullying, and I feel perfectly comfortable calling you out for inconsistencies in your posts as opposed to giving up. That's probably what seems to be annoying you the most. I've never had other posters tell me that I cannot carry on conversations in a civil manner (I've been told quite the opposite, in fact). Just as I've done so many times both inside and outside this thread, I'll take the high-road and not bother bowing down to your level by responding with an insult myself.

That last one is interesting. I couldn't find anything on how many days actually get use in a year, but from the actions of my co-workers here on a VERY time critical project (building and opening a new 300k sq ft distribution center in under 8 months, for the first time for our company in the country), I would say most here use their time. One of the very key folks took 3 weeks off in a row to go to Barbados. Another took 2 weeks off, and now I just found out that another top manager on the project is off next week and the week after, which are the weeks we take possession of the building. It is mind-blowing to me that they would be allowed to take vacation at such critical times, but no one bats an eye. I had a boss once that would turn down people's requests for vacation time if he thought they were "slackers" or if he just wanted to make sure he didn't have to be here extra hours before a game night or whatever. Crazy.

Europeans Earn 28 Days Off on Average
The median number of vacation time available to employed Europeans is 28 days. 30 days are offered to residents of Denmark, France, Germany, and Spain. They take full advantage; residents of all four countries report having taken every day available to them. Their European peers trail them only slightly. United Kingdom residents take 25 of 26 days. Italians take 21 of 28 days. Austrians, Norwegians and the Swedish take 25 of 25 days off, while the Dutch take 24 of 25 days and the Irish take 21 of 22.

Residents of Asia-Pacific and North America, in comparison, are wedded to work. U.S. workers were given approximately 15 days off in the past year, and took 14. While still sparse relative to Europe, this represents an uptick from 2013, when American workers were offered 14 days and took 12. Mexican workers were also given approximately 15 days off, but took 12, leaving 20% of available vacation time on the table.

I am not trying to prove anyone wrong or anything, but the fact is Americans do not get the vacation time that other countries do, and what time they get they don't use. I think it is a bad trend, personally and professionally.

I've seen this graphic. It's based on government mandated time off, or in our case national holidays that aren't actually mandated.

I think that's a cultural phenomenon born out of the 30's -50's that's dying out. I've known several older folks who lose vacation time every December 31st.
