What's new

Charlottesville

I had a friend growing up. He lived with his grandparents.

He'd share his grandpa's wisdom with me. This was the 80s.

Cars could easily get 100mpg but that was being covered up so that oil companies could get more of our money.

AIDS was created by the U.S. government, but got a little bit our of their control.

You had a right to drive a car and didn't really need a driver's license.

Vaccines are bad (they were ahead of the curve on this one).

The Asians in our neighborhood should just go back to Asia.

It was safer to NOT wear a seat belt. I mean, what if your car is stuck on railroad tracks? What if your car rolls, you'd rather be thrown form the car to safety, right? Cars catch on fire and burn the passengers because they can't get out of the car fast enough, because seat belts.

Calling his post art is just babe's way of saying he's in on his own joke, that the propaganda and nonsense he writes is more performance art than serious discussion.

The view of Charlottesville from Europe:

"AUGUST 14, 2017 PARIS—President Trump’s initially vague critique of the white supremacist march through Charlottesville, Va., is being viewed in Europe as a clear sign of divergence between American and European leadership in the face of new expressions of hate in the West.
Europeans have expressed doubts about Trump's commitment to post-war bodies such as NATO and to the liberal ideals that undergird the transatlantic relationship. But the devastating events of this weekend have delivered a shock – creating a moment that may prompt Europeans to reevaluate where America is heading.

Trump more forcefully denounced white nationalism Monday, telling journalists at the White House that “racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups.” For some observers, however – even across the Atlantic – the delay meant it rang hollow."

And for some, enough is enough...

http://www.salon.com/2017/08/14/its...-our-president-personally-made-this-possible/

"It was bad enough that Trump has surrounded himself with “alt-right” white supremacists like Sebastian Gorka, Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller. It was bad enough that Trump constructed his entire political message around a racist dog-whistle, appealing explicitly to the “forgotten men and women” of America. (There was little mystery about what color they were.) It was bad enough that throughout his campaign and presidency so far, Trump has pandered to aggrieved white people angry about Black Lives Matter and the first black president, while he simultaneously demonized nonwhites, be they immigrants or citizens. And then, in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Saturday, he vindicated all our suspicions with the most atrocious presidential remarks delivered in generations.......

.....We’ve endured incompetent presidents before. We’ve endured criminals in the Oval Office before. But we’ve never had both a Nazi appeaser and an apparent Russian puppet in the White House before. Now we’re beginning to see the real and fatal consequences of allowing a terrifyingly incompetent villain to ascend to this station, and matters can absolutely get worse. There’s no silver lining here, just a raw and mandatory urgency for Donald Trump to be legally ejected from his intolerable stewardship of the American presidency."

i ussually get pissed of because of ad hominem attacks. instead of on my argument.

at the moment i am learning Spanish. i understand most everything now. but my grammatical is worse than my English.

i have met a lot of venezuelan refugees. and have become friends with them.

anyways. when i stat something about individualism vs collectivism. people tend to tell me how i spelt individualism wrong.

whenever the right try and state their opinion they get belittled.
from racist/bigot/homophobe/sexist/science denier/transphobe and now russians
even getting called clingers (religion and guns)!

how about when i state i am against abortion.
and you are pro abortion(don't know if you are but lets assume).
we start from why am i against it. i will state taking a life without a valid reason is wrong.
and i think live starts at conception.
you might state that by law live starts at birth.

but maybe scientifically how is live defined. i know science get **** wrong. that i why i think it is better not be safe and not have abortion at all.
but people do not seem interested in defining when human life begins. and thanks to science the viability of a fetus outside the wound keeps getting earlier and earlier.

but instead i get called a sexist and hypocrite for wanting small government but when it comes to abortion i want the government into women's womb.

while i never get the change to explain what small government role is.
for example small governments role is protection of live for the defenseless, a fetus if you consider it a human being, is a defenseless person and needs the governments help to not be "murdered". so it does not go against my principal of small government.

but people never seem to grasp the point of view of the right on the case of abortion. if you understand our point of view. we should only argue on what human life is and when does human live begin. but the left does not seem to want to entertain this option. i have a theory as to why, because maybe science proves them wrong. they rather have a law telling them what a person is, than science. but this is speculation from what i have heard about it.

and maybe we want people to stand for the consequences of their action, you have sex you enjoyed it now the woman is pregnant, the man now must marry her. be a man by taking on the responsibility of his actions. and be there for the woman and child. giving the child a stable basis. as stats show children with both parents do better!

i am always open for reasonable discussion, but recently in real live i had a discussion with my aunt, and now she calls me Nazi sympathizer. because at a certain point she had no more counter arguments. basically it was about free speech and hate speech about who decides what hate speech is. she siad the government. so i told her so you want hitler to decide what hate speech is. or trump or in case of the Netherlands politician geert wilders is found in court for saying "Mohamed married a 6 year old, and by today standards it is called pedophilia". i todl her we either allow all speech or none. except in cases of real crimes(conspiracy).
but when i told her so you wnat the government to decide what we are allowed to say. so i told her Hitler, Chavez, Castro, trump. note i am not anti trump, she is so she would not want trump to decide what should be said or not. she got mad and called me a nazi sympathiser. for saying earlier in the discussion i think people should be able to fly their nazi flag. because it is better to know where those people live!
but now she goes around the family telling everybody how i am a nazi sympathiser. and you want me to remain reasonable!

How do you reason with people that are callin out Trump for sayin we all need to respect each other an create a safe world for are childs?

The divide is great. Had donnie not a history with racism, demonstrated personal and genetically passed to him, this probably would have been written off.

But he has a history of protecting the alt right. What are the alt right?

It's easy to say a bunch of racists. But it's a little more complicated than that. The larger "Alt Right" thinks they're just asking for equal treatment. But they've always had better than equal treatment, and the fact that they have to live in the same reality where everyone else does is frightening.

But then they spew that society is removing white history, and that white people are having their rights taken away. Neither is true, but it's a chance for poor white people to mix in with rich white people... a false sense of societal equivalence. But white trash are usually pretty dumb. But I mean, they have convincing points that will need to be addressed and corrected, or compensated for one day. The United Negro College Fund? Affirmative Action hires? The ability not to be questioned when using the N word? It's the kinda **** that makes reasonable white folk roll their eyes. But angry, put out, left out, poor, or otherwise offput white folk that need a mantle on which to place their frustration?

So at the end of the day, you've got Rich, Privileged folk making poor folk think they're fighting for the same thing. Mix that with a generation or two of the actual racists and white supremacists who will do anything to keep white power on top, and you've really got a bad mix.

Wait... I forgot civility.

Why would the snowflake right care about removing all these participation trophies?

I have always found some humor in people yelling about their patriotism as they hold a flag from a secessionist movement.

If you get a chance watch the early Russell Crowe film Romper Stomper, its about a skinhead gang in Melbourne's West. I'm from that part of Melbourne and grew up there at the time the film came out, I remember growing up with skinhead gangs and gangs in general. The general climate was probably very similar to what is going on in parts of the US, rapid de-industrialisation, mass unemployment and a huge amount of resentment directed toward immigrants. The right in Australia has capitalised on this and used race to divide the working class, the major Center-Right Liberal party has moved to become a diet version of the Tea Party and to their right is another far right minor party that is not far from fascist (again in a very Australian in dinky way). It has dragged the entire political discourse to the right and in this climate violent right wing groups like the United Patriots Front have emerged and spout racial and religious hatred at rallies around the country. Its ****ed.
