Chat room or the old game threads?

By far the biggest change with the site redesign has been chat taking over the game threads. Do you guys like the change?

Hate the change tbh.
But to be fair, I don't use this site during live games due to time difference (Sydney) and am usually at work or with my kids etc.

I loved reading back over the game threads and sometimes adding my two bobs worth a number of hours later.

Not sure I can win here. Old chat years ago was popular for a while and people would ask for it back but due to load and just a poor implementation of chat, I more-or-less left it off. Then with the recent changes, I explore a way to bring it back and it seems popular but now people that used to view the game thread after the fact (mostly) are upset. Are those that would have to use the game thread during the game upset?!

If chat was gone, others would be upset.

To find a happy medium I added chat transcripts to the game thread with the goal being to allow those that come in after the fact to still see the conversation as it played out. Yes it isn’t in a true game thread fashion but it is trying to make the best of it.

I guess I need to think on this more. People complaining to remove one or the other doesn’t solve it imho. Maybe it does but I get the impression one or the other isn’t the answer.

It seems pretty simple. If you don't like using chat don't use it and use the game thread. If you want to read it later you can. If you don't want to read the chat in the game thread just put chat on ignore. I'm not sure why anything else needs to be done, all the problems have been solved by @Jason with this.

Are the game threads too quiet? Well post more in them.

It seems to me most that want game threads don't actually watch the game. Chat is much better when you are watching the game. You don't have to miss parts of the game because you need to write "Don DADA!"

I really like the chat. Makes watching the game with fellow fans really fun. I do miss the threads through because nothing in the chat can really be saved/expounded on. With a thread, people can come and join or add to the conversation later, and conversations can go much deeper. If someone makes a good comment or joke, in a thread more people would get a chance to see it and appreciate it. Chat is ephemeral. And if you didn't get a chance to watch the game, you could go and read through the thread to get full picture of it. Still, I hope the chat stays. It's a lot of fun.

Chat is more of a series of random comments. Game threads lends itself to a little more discussion. Both have their pros and cons. Chat is quicker to use. Game threads take a tenting away from the game a bit more.

Probably the best series of threads here (besides the game threads) are the threads by JazzAvenues taken from other fans sites' GAME THREADS. Those threads wouldn't be as entertaining if opposing fans abandoned their game threads to use chat instead.

For that reason, I have to vote for the game thread format.

I think the majority thought MK11 threads the first thing when they saw the option with “old” sign while they were voting.

The actual last few years game thread routine sucks so salty donkey balls that it’s not even funny.
