Chess Match Thread

I've been reading through the posts in this topic, and it seems people underestimate just how good 2000+ rating is. My father is a FIDE Master. He's spent his life travelling across the world to participate in chess competitions. And he's never broke 2400 rating. He hasn't played at that level in over a decade, and he still beats me about 3 out of 4 times.

When I was younger, my father used to coach me, and he'd always felt my game was too aggressive and reckless. I never felt strongly enough about the game to put forth the effort required to be great. By my teenage years, my father had given up on trying to coach the flaws out of my game, and he accepted that it'll always be this casual thing for me.

Either way, nobody here has a rating of 2400. lol

once upon a time I was rated: coffee shop adequate

Now I'm rated: too wise(cheap) to pay 5 bucks for a coffee

please do the pics for me, as somehow that link took over several of my computer links, including my browser. I had to shut down the computer, and create new links. . .

he was also known for being able to accurately produce a board setup from just reviewing more than 25 moves of simple algebraic notation. I remember reading an article about him in which the author related a story about a time when Bobby was engrossed in a book or conversation or something and at the same time played a game against another player in his chess club never once looking at the board and he still called the mate in like 6 or 8 moves at the end.

That's the difference between a smart person and geniuses who God tries to strike with his lightening for sport.

Like getting mixed up on who's the Queen.

I don't know if I'm missing the joke or you did.

well, I was referring to my gaffe looking at my black position upside down and getting disoriented into thinking the black King was the black Queen. At this point, I think I'm the joke.

resign. you can fork me with the N. I should've gone on the d8 spot, but that's only about two moves from checkmate, too.

I don't understand why you didn't do k8. Would've lengthened game by a couple of moves.

Edit: Did you edit your post? There was only 'k7' when I made my response. I guess great minds think alike. Haha.

Good game either way.

good game.

The value of chess is the integrity it teaches. There are rules, and you make your moves, and sometimes see the consequences. . . . all in glaringly objective terms.

I get used to my own little set of viewpoints, and the people I play. It's good to find better people to play against.

The value of an exercise like that discussed about Bobby Fisher above is the way it can train your mind.

So if I have a cheap computer game to play against, I can learn what it does and then plan on it. I know it fails in the pawn end game, and I can "trick" it to do some things that will result in a pass pawn with the one move edge I need to make it a queen and recover the sacrifice.

For a while I think I was only one move from being able to force you into a checkmate plight in front of your pawn row. You didn't allow me to do it.

I always have some difficulty moving into something that is not set in my usual framework. . . . a new chessboard, a new opponent, playing black when I sorta spent too much time playing white for a while. . . . .new computer manipulations. But that is why I need to do it. . . . .

yes

I started to make the move by the King along the back row, and then worried about something else and forgot about the Knight and moved. I might have started to type the better move but I posted the worse one, and found a conflict in the post, which I edited, leaving the worse move that I actually made. Gotta teach myself to stick to my moves. Then I'll do better thinking in the first place.
