Christian books.....

I'm loading up on them on Amazon right now and could use a few more suggestions before I send the order through tomorrow. A lot of the books I'm getting are like a quarter or a penny so I've got a lot of room left. They can be Mormon books(just clarifying because some of you might think I wouldn't be into that based on what I've said on here in the past) too. In fact, I already have a Contemporary English Book of Mormon and a few Rob Millet and Cleon Skousen books carted. They can be novels as well - A Walk to Remember for instance is a very powerful Christian book to me. Any authors you guys like? Any specific books that you keep reading over and over again through the years? Any recent finds? If you guys had to select a handful of books beyond scripture to somebody knowing that reading that stack of books was going to be the one shot that they would ever get at finding Christ...what would you pick? Those are the kinds of books I want....but since they are pretty cheap....I can forgive for any suggestions that end up sucking.

My conversion stack would include:

Imitation of Christ - Thomas Kempis - Paraclete Essentials Contempary English edition. It's supposedly the 2nd most popular Christian book ever behind the Bible, but I've never met anybody else that has actually read it. It's my favorite book ever though. Did a number on me. I've read it probably 50 times since I found it 3 or 4 years ago.

Beautiful Outlaw - John Eldredge

Healing Wisdom from the Bible - James Gibson.

The Wonderful Spirit Filled Life - Charles Stanley

Plan B - Pete Wilson

Counterfeit Gods - Timothy Keller

Not a Fan - Kyle Idleman

This is kind of a philosophical self-help book, but it has completely changed the way I treat and look at people. You can go read the reviews/description on Amazon or GoodReads to see if you are really interested.

The Bonds that Make Us Free - C. Terry Warner

I don't know if this is strictly Christian, but you should check out the science fantasy book Eifelheim. It is about a bunch of aliens who crash in Middle Ages Europe, and end up stranded in an isolated Christian village. Christianity plays heavily into the narrative, as some of the aliens become enamored by Christian ideals, and... well, I wouldn't want to spoil it. But it's an awesome AWESOME book.

Edit: Another great Christian-themed science fiction book is The Sparrow, by Mary Russell.

Carted every book mentioned in the thread....even the sci-fi ones...which also reminded me that I never have read any of the Left Behind books either so I threw the first one of that in there. C.S. Lewis is hit and miss with me, but Mere Christianity is never at my local library and seems to be the one that people point to of his the most, so I'm definitely looking forward to giving that a go.

Max Lucado is worth mentioning in this thread too. He's a high volume writer so he kind of recycles a lot of what he writes, but you pick 5 or 6 of his books randomly and they will be worth reading.

I've never read this but have wanted to. Tell me what some of you folks thought

There are definitely passages in there that gave me food for thought. The most powerful section (for me) was what he had to say about not judging others. I also liked what he had to say about different types of sins. And I quoted his "God outside of time" analogy in another thread recently. Finally, at the end he also talks about deification in a manner not too unlike LDS doctrine (but not completely matching it, either).

Also, it's very short. :-)
