Clarkson Likely to Get Extension

We got a all-star in a trade where we traded an all-star. I am all for buying low on guys we think could be better in our system. Trading our premium picks like you have suggested is quite the opposite.
^fixed

...and we got boatload of picks deep into unknown Cavs future.. and two other guys as well that dont look terrible.

I was just copying the verbiage you used my friend.

Not sure what you are debating here we all know how great of a trade that was for us.

This is just a simple disagreement. I really appreciate what you bring to the board. We should absolutely be looking at getting players like Collins if the price is reasonable.
Yeah I may be flaming you a bit.. but you are one of my favourite posters. You use numbers, quotes from experts and facts to support your opinions... unlike some in here. I really like that. I try to do it as well.. since I know I'm not a leading authority for NBA, basketball or even life.

Fit matters. That's what the Cavs are now learning the hard way. Mitchell fits, but now... Garland doesn't. And that's something of a problem, as they just gave him the 5 year max and stupidly anointed him the face of the franchise. Garland is quickly becoming the elephant in the room.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have done the trade. Don is much better than Garland. But they're way too similar, and something has to give before long. That will be very uncomfortable for everyone.

Of course, it's not a given that Mitchell even stays in Cleveland once his deal is up, but if the Cavs have become "his" team in the meantime, Garland may not want to look like a plan B after Don bolts. He may ask for a trade too (if he hasn't earlier). At that point the Cavs are ****ed.

So, we definitely shouldn't be hoarding guys like Collins before thinking long and hard how they're going to fit.

This whole tanking theme is just such a stupid discussion because it gets so opinionated.

I trust that DA has a plan, and Hardy knows it. They are still trying to win since they see it as the best course of action.

Instead of telling those professionals who are paid millions and have dozens of other professionals supporting them being wrong, Id rather try and understand where they are headed and why.

How did we get that stuff we traded? Oh we drafted him.

Hitting on picks is so crucial for success in non FA destination markets. You can maneuver through trades and sign a FA here and there… but the vast majority of AS talent will come from the draft.

Remember… to get where we want to go we aren’t just trying to find an all star to pair with Lauri… we are trying to find an all star better than Lauri. As great as he has been does anyone think Lauri is the #1 on a finals team? On a conference finals team? We aren’t just looking for starters… we looking for stars.

Why should we comment on anything then? I mean I was given that exact ****ing line on draft night when we picked Udoka over Bane and Mcdaniels. This was on draft night… I also told everyone that we will sign a vet backup so keep that in mind… got lol’d to high heaven “you know better than a professional?!?!?!? Lolz!!!”

Yes sir… I did.

Now to DA… we don’t know the plan and it’s likely not mapped like a traditional plan… more like a general direction. That direction will firm up based on their actions… not on reports from media. At trade deadline we will see where they stand. Their opportunities are a big part of what direction they go.

lmfao

Garland isnt an ideal fit with Mitchell, but you are being a bit ridiculous here. If they really wanted to, they could trade Garland and get a boatload for him, he is very very good.

We likely wouldn’t have gotten much on top of Garland if they included him in the deal for Donovan.

If Lauri plays like he has over the last month and a half then the answer to your question is yes. He has been playing like a first team all nba league mvp candidate stats wise.

I would say yeah, I think Lauri can be a #1 on a championship team. Dirk did it, I think Lauri can too if you put the right team around him.

I dont think you have to have a shoot for the moon mentality. For instance, if the Jazz have the choice between Cason Wallace and GG Jackson, I'd probably go with Cason. Sure, GG does have higher potential to hit as a 20+ PPG #1/#2 scoring option, but Cason provides so many high level intagibles at a pretty valuable position, so I'd rather have him to pair next to Lauri than the potential of a high level scorer.
