Clarkson vs. Burks

It feels like Clarkson has a greater shooting range than Burks. I rarely thought a Burks 3 was going in. His shot was so flat. While Clarkson’s 3s seems close every time.
It may sound silly but if you look/listen to the way the ball goes through the net on his shots, it’s quite crisp. There are just certain shooters that have it go through that smooth that you get an idea that they’re good even if they’re missing. I think his lower than expected three point percentage is due to taking so many and having a lot of them be contested. It would be interesting to see how his numbers compare depending on how guarded he is. Maybe I’ll try to look that up.

I disagree... early AB maybe, but post injury he played like a guy trying to fit into a system that didn't fit his game. I think the opinion of JC is overly high right now because he's the new toy... before we declare this guy to have an amazing IQ and a killer let's give it 15-20 games.

I agree with you on Clarkson. But I never got the full killer instinct vibe from Burks.

Not in disagreement. I concur we should give it some time. But IMHO reasons for optimism are there beyond novelty.

You know what... I will agree... but it is less about his actual output for me and just some random things I like.

He's fast and you can see he moves well... according to Locke he was a track star early in life and quit pre-HS to focus on basketball. You can see how quick he is.

He's got good wingspan/size and he uses it... he had a couple paint shots where he stopped and looped a weird hook shot layup over a taller defender (got it blocked once).

There has been other stuff too, but those things kind of surprised me.

Why do we insist on comparing him to a basically broken player like Burks, why not somebody like Lou Williams? Cause that’s the conversation we should be having. The players know it. Maggette was talking about how highly Kobe regarded Clarkson with the Lakers. Kevin Porter talked about how Clarkson mentored him and helped him read the defense. Mitchell talked about how Clarkson is going to make his life so much easier. The only similarity between clarkson and Burks is they’re both athletic, but Clarkson has good shot mechanics and a high BBIQ.

It wasn't really about comparing them directly. They are rather different as you say. If you read the other thread Fish was basically just saying (after one game) that Clarkson's stats weren't that great in that game and that if Burks had the same line we'd be upset. And then went on to say their career stats are similar. I thought it was a fair observation and yet watching Clarkson I liked what I saw (so far) so I was trying to watch closer to figure out why.

His shot mechanics are and that’s why he’s so inconsistent IMO. You forgot the hitch? Almost Lonzo Ball territory. I won’t even get into the mental lapses.
Did you know that some players have less than perfect form on their shots yet still have value? In fact, watch Clarkson shoot tonight and if you pay attention you find that it ain't all that beautiful. Really low release.

I OG thought Burks was more talented, but Clarkson is clearly much better. Makes decision much quicker, less wasted motion in his biomechanics, and a much more willing shooter.

Pause it here, that's a low release to you? The shot is pretty damn textbook.
