Removing the outline around Jazz looks better but I think the stripes behind the A & Z add depth. They also do make it looks busy it might look best to remove the space between the stripes and the background rather than remove them entirely. Or just match the width of the "shadow" behind last Z to the first one.

How about increasing the size of the shapes to fill the space between the letters better? I tried removing the space between stripes and green shapes, but it looked strange.

I used Gimp to do the ones in the op. It's free so that's cool. I first downloaded it a decade ago, by the time I got around to trying out photoshop it was just to foreign so I went back to Gimp.
