What's new

Colbert will replace Letterman

I don't think CBS would be willing to use his Colbert Report persona as a host for a mainstream TV show.

I don't watch any of the late nights shows much anymore, but I think Jimmy Kimmel is my default for now when I do.

So will he be hosting it as himself or his satire alter ego?

That's the question. I would assume he would do it as himself. Or maybe possibly have the alter ego make appearances for special interviews, but not be 100% of the time. But who knows?

Colbert is a hero for 80% of jazzfanz. He trolled his way to fame and fortune -- riding it all the way to one of the best gigs on the planet. Pearl Watson would like to declare the day he takes over for Letterman a national holiday.

Good for him, but sucks that there will be no more Colbert Report. Will be interesting to see how well he can do out of character, I'm sure he will do great though.

David Letterman ****ing sucked.

Jay Leno ****ing sucks.

He won me over with this. :-)

Fallon's animating sensibility is joy and that penetrates virtually every facet of his show and the way he interacts with guests. What you're seeing in that clip is a particularly evocative example of that principle.

What Fallon will not ever do is challenge his audience or challenge his guests. It gets in the way of joy and would screw with the vibe of his show. As a result, Fallon is poised to be the king of the "Hangout Late Show" for the next couple decades. I like to check in on his stuff that goes viral every once in awhile but I have no real interest in regularly tuning into the late night equivalent of Cotton Candy.

Now Craig Ferguson...that's a weirdo I can get behind.

at this point, I stopped reading and thought to myself, "Kicky has found his own inverted image." Then, you finished with this flourish:

I like to check in on his stuff that goes viral every once in awhile but I have no real interest in regularly tuning into the late night equivalent of Cotton Candy.

Now Craig Ferguson...that's a weirdo I can get behind.

Then I realized how dumb I was to make any comparison between a guy as talented as Fallon and a moderator on jazzfanz.

Craigs ok, I just don't think his dry humor works well that late at night.

I enjoy Fallon.

Don't care for the rest really.

What sort of weirdo want's a late night host to challenge their guests or audience? It's more about entertaining and less about making statements, imo.

Kidding about the weirdo comment Kicky... sortof.
