What's new

College Basketball '14-15......

I can't believe Short Shorts Obekpa from St. John's got suspended. That was one the top 5 players I was hoping to watch in the tourney.

I hate to defend the NCAA on anything, but making it about the money isn't necessarily crooked in and of itself.

Sorry but how is: We are making a seeding 1 through 64 and we'll swap like 25 seeds around because we want more tv revenue from the first rounds not crooked? I mean if I'm the 7 seed Pacers, how is it fair to be matched against the 1 seed Hawks in round 1 just because Adam Silver feels like a rematch of this series from last year with reversed seeds would be a better story and bring more money? Meanwhile the 8 seed Bobcats with Lance Stephenson can play against LeBron again because of its drama potential? Meanwhile the 4 seed Bulls play against the 6 seed Milwaukee because of proximity and they want a big market to have an easier way through the bracket. And the 5 seed Wizards have to play against Toronto.

College teams play vastly different schedules. Using record alone doesn't work so there is lots of gray area and wiggle room for maneuvering teams.

Well but PKM said something about they try to create stories and that affects their decision making in terms of seeding. What if the NBA tried that as well to a bigger extent than what they're trying to do with conference separation.

Simply an analogy. Not a bad one in my eyes.

Nah, I don't think it's a good analogy at all. Would also further reduce the incentive for effort within the NBA, at least, at the top.

The goals of each postseason aren't even the same. NBA playoffs is more about figuring out who the best overall team is. If that was the goal of March Madness it wouldn't be a gigantic single elimination tournament.

MASSIVE difference between the NBA and NCAA. 30 vs. 300+ teams. UK has a basketball budget that's bigger than the entire MWC, I bet.

There's no draft.. on and on. In other words, the parity people like to talk about in cbb is insanely less than that of the NBA.

I am NOT taking up for the evil NCAA, but I don't have much problem with how they do the brackets.

Yeah, but single elimination creates a lot of parity.

Eastern Washington beats Georgetown and SDSU beats Duke making Utah's run to the elite 8 somewhat easy, then they go on to lose to Iowa St. who loses to Kentucky in the championship. (Not trying to make LazyD and Peeks love me, that's really what my bracket looks like.)

I love you.

I think people underestimate SEC's guards defense. A lot of SEC teams are small and really quick and can force a lot of TO's.

I sure started getting nervous when Ole Miss started pressing and trapping more. The athleticism on the perimeter is definitely always problem for BYU....and of course they don't have any starting quality bigs right now either....which taken together is why we saw the familiar pattern of..... Ole Miss guard gets into the paint....dish and dunk. Ole Miss guard gets into the paint.....dish and dunk. Ole Miss guard gets into the paint....dish and dunk. In the second half. And then BYU tries to press Moody at the end of the game....and he doesn't even notice them....blows down the court and dishes for the layup. Should be interesting see what Ole Miss can do going forward.

Ole Miss could easily get a couple of rounds if they are hot, they are just that kind of team. They could also easily get blown out by Xavier. IDK, I'm rethinking having Xavier advancing.
