Westbrook also pushed back on the buyouts until he had to start doing them. You can argue with me all you want, but the thing I'm speaking on is a real thing amongst NBA players.

There is also bird rights that I believe @HermanG pointed out. Yes, having to be trade with a 2nd rounder attached isnt a great look either, but it's not as bad as a buyout and Nurkic is still an overall productive NBA bench player.

I would rather be able to choose my destination and get paid more money.

Believe it or not, Nurkic is a +\-and analytics god. He will win us games if we play him.

I hate this trade so much as it stands. Maybe if we move Kessler its okay because you don't want to be garbage at center but feels like you can go find a Eubanks to at least be competent. IDK... I want the rest of the story and it there isn't a transaction we will never get it.

It only makes sense if we were doing Collin a solid and Charlotte has an extension setup for him already. In that case why the second round pick tho.

For me, Kessler doesn’t even matter. We don’t need quality vets that play minutes. As hated as Nurkic is, he’s better than a rookie. I was out of service and under the impression we were just gonna waive Nurk. It’s weird how it went down, but whatever. We’re better with Sexton gone.

If we’re intending to play him as a backup or starter that is dumb. Maybe it’s just easier to bench Nurk than it is to bench Sexton. But I don’t think we’re better off with Nurkic playing on our roster.

When looking at this foster pre trade, my main question was the back up C spot. Sure we could play small ball w Hendricks or filipowski but that really wouldn’t be ideal for long stretches. I don’t mind the trade at all as we needed to get sexton moved for minutes and benefit from a back up big. The 2nd rounder is the only head scratcher but I’m sure they had to include/there was a reason.

Also I don’t think there was intent behind the trade to make us “better.”

Start envisioning what this starting lineup could look like next year with boozer, Petersen or dybantsa. One more year fellas. Seems a recipe for long term success could be brewing after getting unexpected result w ace

Maybe Nurkic is better than his miserable season he just had and Jazz and other teams knew this

I'm beginning to come around to the opinion that speculating in the draft lottery delivers a similar dopamine hit that gambling at the Vegas tables delivers. The excitement of potential draft wins and even the near wins reinforces the cycle of seeking the high of irrational draft anticipation euphoria again and again. "Wait till next year" is the drug that fuels a seemingly insatiable desire to continuing gambling with losses in the hope of winning the big one in some indefinite future.

Wait, if it was clearly a dump and no one wanted him then how was this a less bad "stigma" than a buyout would be?
At least a buyout would make sense that the jazz want to tank and play young guys and it wouldn't hurt sexton image as much as this trade that says the jazz didn't want him and Charlotte also didn't want him (hence the jazz having to sweeten/beg Charlotte, a crap team, to take him)
The trade is a worse look for sexton than a buyout imo.

Its a bad look either way. But Sexton has to agree to a buyout but doesnt have to agree to a trade.

I dont know if that was ever discussed with him or if they blindsided him with all this... but if they did then I will grade this trade worse. But I wont hate them for wanting to clear his minutes and touches off the books.

Yes, tanking is extremely overrated. But what exactly would be your plan to move forward? It really doesn't say much to say that tanking is unlikely to work unless you offer a solution that is better. "I'm tired of this" isn't exactly an argument that other paths are more effective.

If Nurk sits on the bench/goes home I'm ok with this. I can see a world where the Jazz did not want to do that with Sexton, but they also wanted to maintain flexibility to trade the contract value later (at trade deadline for example). That's all fine, even if it's strange to have to pay for this. But if we're doing this because we "need" a center....just awful. Just waive Sexton and sign a prospect in FA instead.

Nah, should be playing Nurkic. He's a solid defensive backup center and he's a good passer and great screener. The Jazz can use him to help develop their young pieces. Flip wasnt being done any favors trying to be a fake 5.

Maybe he gets phased out as the season goes on, but Im guessing he's treated like Eubanks where he plays the early backup minutes then traded (or maybe waived) at a later date.

interesting . i've seen enough people on the internet tell me he sucks that i just believed it. didn't look into anything. maybe because i wanted it to be true.
