Welcome to Colton's 2013 Mock Draft Compilation, v. 1.0. Here are who the mock drafts are listing as the "best players". See below for details. It should give a pretty good idea of who will be available when the Jazz pick at 14 and 21.

1 Nerlens Noel
2 Ben McLemore
3 Otto Porter
4 Victor Oladipo
5 Anthony Bennett
6 Alex Len
7 Trey Burke
8 C.J. McCollum
9 Cody Zeller
10 Michael Carter-Williams
11 Shabazz Muhammad
12 Steven Adams
13 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
14 Kelly Olynyk
15 Dennis Schroeder
16 Shane Larkin
17 Rudy Gobert
18 Dario Saric*
18 Jamaal Franklin
18 Gorgui Dieng
21 Mason Plumlee
22 Sergey Karasev
23 Jeff Withey
24 Giannis Adetokunbo
25 Tony Mitchell
26 Allen Crabbe
27 Lucas Nogueira
28 Glen Rice Jr.
29 Reggie Bullock
30 Tim Hardaway Jr.

*Probably withdrawing, but not all mocks show that yet. Will go higher if he stays in.

On the first round bubble: Tony Snell, Ricky Ledo, Pierre Jackson, Livio Jean-Charles, Erick Green

Ranking details: I used the following mock drafts as "voters" for the best players. That is, I assumed they ranked the players in the order that they felt like the players deserved to be drafted. (This is an incorrect assumption, because some mock drafts account for perceived team need, but it should be close.) Then I used the "instant run-off voting" algorithm in a program I wrote to deduce who deserved to be ranked in the top spot, then in the second spot, then in the third spot, and so forth. See here for details on that algorithm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting

If there are mocks you'd like me to include next time, please let me know. And if anyone wants to PM me Chad Ford's mock, I won't object.

Edit: got Chad Ford's draft, thanks.

Well there's a good debate-
Larkin or Olynk?

For me it's Larkin, though there are other players likely to be there that I'd rather the Jazz pick. However, I've vowed to not be too upset by anyone the Jazz draft and to be open minded about it.

Olynyk and Plumlee? Is this a joke?

That's kind of my nightmare draft scenario (and I know that the list wasn't a mock), mostly because I want the Jazz to draft a PG in the worst way.

This X 1,000,000,000.

It's interesting that generally KOC likes players who are "big for their position". Larkin is ridiculously undersized for his position.

Olynyk on the other hand would be big for his position (be it Center or PF).

Concluding remarks

Another interesting point to note is what Lindsey said in an interview last week. He said if we're evaluating 2 guys at a particular pick, there is a school of thought to go for the "big man with skills" just because it is more rare to find a big man with skills". All of this info seems to point towards our FO picking Olynyk if they are forced to pick between Larkin vs Olynyk.

Good point. But the big guy with skills who could actually start on our team (in a year) is Giannis. :)

I really like the USA today Mock. If the Jazz got both CJ and Glenn Rice Jr. I would be extremely excited.

Not a fan of Larkin at 14. No way he is BPA. 21 could be argued that might be BPA. Personally I think Larkin belongs in the 2nd round. Everyone likes to bring up Lawson-but Lawson has always be explosive and a strong finisher at the rim. Larkin struggles with that. In other words Larkin hopes he can become as good as Mo Williams. Not the road I want to go down.

According to the Lindsey interview the Jazz should have thier own draft board, or Mock Draft , this week.

Oh, what I would give to see it just one time......

I wonder if Colton has ever compared the Mock compilations to the actual draft results to see how accurate of a predictor the mocks are.

I suspect it holds true for about 6 picks then starts to diverge and is only slightly better than a random guess by 25.
