76ers-Super well deserved. Definitely fits the definition of “breakout”. During the draft time i thought he’d be really good, but not this good this fast.
Raptors-I thought his spider themed suit was really cool.
76ers-Dude had so much swag
Knicks-Facts, he is hustling to create/improve his brand despite playing in Utah.
Nets-Adidas been doing a nice job with their basketball players lately IMO. Dame is getting nice recognition and some fire shoes, Harden is out there winning MVPs, Mitchell is killing it and is a young star.
Unk-For sure and with social media, being in a small market isn't a big of a deal as it used to be when you only coverage was from national tv.
Lakers-He showed up in the playoffs unlike the other “rookie”
Bulls-Donovon Mitchell would be waaaaay more well-known right now if he played in Boston or LA. The fact that more people know about Taytum and Kuzma, Porzingis are proof of this.
Wizards response-A couple of thoughts on this.
Tatum, in my opinion, is rightfully as big or bigger (by a tiny bit) of a star than Mitchell. He was the #3 overall pick and took his team deeper into the playoffs at least.
Porzingis has already played in the NBA 2 years. Obviously he's had more nation-wide exposure than Mitchell.
Kuzma is not more widely known than Mitchell. I didn't know what the best metric for this would be, so here's Google search trends. The time range is from the start to end of last season, so it isn't impacted by the fact Mitchell just won an ESPY.
Actually, there was probably more buzz about Mitchell than Tatum throughout the season. Tatum only started getting Google searches around the ECF.
I'm not disagreeing that players in large markets do get more national attention and vice versa, but comparing Donovan Mitchell vs. Tatum and Kuzma is not good evidence for this.
This is in no way a good study, but I would actually conclude from this that a deep playoff run is more important for national exposure than playing in a large market.
Unk-Tatum lead his team in a weaker eastern conference and also had less swag, a more quiet personality then Donovan tho
Heat-lol its like the anti-Kawhi
Cetlics-Damn. Imagine if Kawhi actually had charisma and cared about his brand. He'd be one of the faces of the nba rn.
Unk-Good **** I ****in love Spida
Jazz-That suit is hella dope.
Pistons-I ****ing love Mitchell so much. Hope the Jazz tear it up for years
Hornets-I mean, the Jazz have pretty much been consistently solid for almost 30 years.
Pistons-well yeah but I like Mitchell so I care a bit more how they do for the future. There's never been a player on the Jazz since I've been watching that I really love so
Knicks-Donovan Mitchell has become one of my favorite players. Plus he's Frank's homie so I hope he has a long and accomplished career with the Jazz
Good for Donovan and good for the Jazz. Very deserving
Wizards-Amazing dude, amazing story.
76ers-I'd say Alvin Kamara should have won, but Donovan Mitchell still deserves it over Simmons due simply to draft position.
Mavx-i disagree. mitchel should of and actually did win it
Jazz-Mitchell is looking gooooood. Can't wait to see what his shoe looks like after seeing all the looks he's been rocking this summer. Just marry me already.
Lakers-Congratz Mitchell, definitely deserves it.
Unk-Glad he finally got recognized for something kid is gonna be an all star
Unk-Nice hair
Lakers-That's a sexy spida suit. Man I love Donovan.
Pacers-That’s my ROTY.
Portland-Good for Spida
Nets-That suit is nice. Congrats Dono
Unk-Favorite speech of the night
Unk-Donovan Mitchell with his cool sister handshake and dropping 40s in his rookie year straight up freq from 2k16
Unk-Yep he surprised me, I didn’t even recognize his name from the draft. He cane out of nowhere extremely good.
Celtics-I'm a celtics fan, but Donovan Mitchell is one of my favorite players this is well deserved and hes a great kid. Donny Mitch, Tatum, and Simmons are all unreal.
76ers response-That’s crazy man, we all know only 1 of those 3 is allowed to be good and the other 2 are trash! Gtfo with your logic and ****
Mavs-Should've won RoTY too, butt **** it.
Hornets-****ing how can a rookie be a breakthrough player
Pistons-well he broke through in the league and most people know how good he is for the first time so also what does it matter
Raptors-homie came out of nowhere got drafted late and surprised the whole league, that counts as breaking through, he exceeded expectations
