My brother in law served a mission in Mexico. One letter home (old days, writing on actually paper) he started going into how he had met this fabulous Mexican girl, wanted to make her happy, and therefore had decided to marry her [turn page] to her fiance. My wife said her dad just about had a heart attack prior to the page turn.

#1 prankster. instant classic!

How do you know? In these very-male domains, people aren't supposed to acknowledge it even when they are offended. If a Mormon stepped up and said it wasn't funny, you'd tell them to grow a thicker skin.

Unless I'm looking for a useless discussion, I'd probably say: I'm sorry you feel offended by my joke!
At the same time I'd think: I don't care you don't like it and chuckle because the person most likely hasn't paid enough attention to what I said to grasp that I said 'I feel sorry for you' in a way that expresses pity and it sounded very similar to an apology while it wasn't one.

I also saw that you like quite a few comics that mock God and Christianity. You know, concepts that have been used to justify persecution. Probably a good thing nobody has ever been threatened with death for being a Christian!

It's not about what I like, it's about what type of society I want to live in; more specifically, I want to live in one where we don't make fun of people just because they are different.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say or whom you mean. I don't recall saying you felt sorry to anyone, sincerely or otherwise.

I'm for freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The latter does not insulate from the former. However, I believe I have selected comics that mock 1) views that many people actually hold (unlike the original post), and 2) views that are considered acceptable in the US mainstream. I'll say this much: if you can find a comic in that list and offer an example where it makes fun of people, as opposed to ideas, link to it (here or on my blog), and I'll remove it.

Having been persecuted 1700 years ago, or that you might be subject to persecution in some foreign country, is not an excuse to belittle people who believe differently in this country. The only ways Christians experience so-called persecution in the Western world is when they are denied an exceptional status.

It may not be like this for everybody, but I can with absolutely certainty that my religion is a fundamental aspect of me as a person. My views shape who I am, especially my belief in Christianity…in fact, that shapes me more than anything else. It is my base, my foundation. I know you don't like me much, but I do know that you like Colton. Ask Colton if his religion is a fundamental aspect of him as a person.

I have absolutely no doubt both you and colton believe your values some from your religion, and just as little doubt that you both are wrong, not because of any particular obtuseness, but because you are human. Had you been adopted as an infant by Muslims in Iran, Hindus in India, Shinto in Japan, or Buddhists in Thailand, your religion would have been very different, but you would still be the same person, generally. Yes, all of this applies to me, as well.

If I thought I was, I wouldn't have bothered to comment, because I would be thinking that PKM is not capable of behaving with more consideration. It's because I think of PKM (and you) as people who want to be positive and uplifting that I bother at all.

Then again, that last paragraph could be self-serving, post hoc rationalization that I merely want to believe. I'll have to think about that.

Needless to say, I disagree with you. However, it's not worth the discussion, you're hardly worth the time. Lets get back to the main topic.

Christianity is a viewpoint. Therefore, it's ok to mock this viewpoint, according to you.
