What's new

Congresswoman shot.

My Christmas present from my mother this year was the Glenn Beck novel 'The Christmas Sweater.'

But it's cool. I didn't get her anything.

That's a bizarre favorite book list for a conservative.

The only insinuation that was off base is yours. He's being labeled a conservative in the media, I didn't call them that. If anything, I was pointing out that he probably isn't either. He seems to love control, and hate being controlled at the same time. Nobody said he couldn't read those books. Everybody should read Huxley and Orwell especially because they were very tied into governments. Their works aren't complete fiction, they were writing what the elite of the world told them about the direction we are headed.

You made the insinuation not me. I don't care who labeled him. I never said you labeled him. I just pointed out that the judgement you made was based on that label and that is what is wrong with american politics. No such thing as open discourse, just "if you don't agree with me, you are evil", or stupid or a liar or whatever needs to be said to advance whatever dogma they are pushing. You proved the point there. That is a strange book list FOR A CONSERVATIVE. There is the insinuation. That being conservative somehow means you have to think a certain way. That comment is a very clear representation of the problems in american politics today. Even if you didn't mean it that way, it still sums it up nicely.

Wow, you're serious? Nevermind the dude probably has some serious mental issues, it's all the Tea Party's fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 22-year-old man suspected in the deadly shooting rampage Saturday in Arizona was described by the local sheriff as "unstable" and with a "kind of troubled past."

Fox News sources identified the suspected shooter as Jared Loughner.

At a press conference held Saturday evening, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said the man suspected in the mass shooting that left six dead and more than a dozen injured has a criminal background and "there is reason to believe he has a mental issue."

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said.

"And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Rep. Giffords in Critical Condition After Being Shot in the Head at Public Event

Loughner is suspected of posting a series of YouTube videos that show a focus on literacy and currency -- as well as his distrust in the government.

"Hello, my name is Jared Lee Loughner," one of the videos says, in words appearing on the screen. "This video is my introduction to you! My favorite activity is conscience dreaming; the greatest inspiration for my political business information. Some of you don't dream - sadly."

The video, posted Dec. 15, later turns more political.

"The majority of citizens in the united states of America have never read the united states of America's constitution. You don't have to accept the federalist laws," the video's titles say. "In conclusion, reading the second United States constitution, I can't trust the current government because of the ratifications: the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won't pay debt with a currency that's not backed by gold and silver! No! I won't trust in god!"

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among the people critically wounded in the shooting at a public event in Tucson, and several people were killed, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old boy.

Officials have said little publicly about the suspect in custody, but law enforcement sources who asked to remain anonymous identify him as Loughner.

Records obtained from the Pima County, Ariz. criminal database show Loughner was arrested in 2007 for possessing drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor charge. The records suggest that Loughner paid a $20 fee and completed a court-ordered program for drug offenders.

Three months later he was cited for running a stop sign, according to court documents.

Another record shows a 2008 arrest for what’s described as a “local charge” in Marana, Ariz., 20 miles northwest of Tucson. The non-criminal charge was dismissed.

Loughner's page on YouTube lists Tucson as his hometown. He also said he attended Northwest Aztec College and Pima County Community College. And in one of the videos, he says he is a military recruit.

But an Army official told Fox News Loughner attempted to enlist in the Army in December 2008 but was denied.

The Army provided this statement:

"The Army has confirmed that the suspect was never in the Army. He attempted to enlist in the Army but was rejected for service. In accordance with the Privacy Act, we will not discuss why he was rejected."

In other videos, Loughner calls the people of District 8, his Ariz. district, illiterate.

In a bizarre equation that Loughner appears to mean as example of deductive reasoning, he concludes that "the police are unconstitutional."

In yet another rant verging on the paranoid, he says:

“I know who’s listening: Government Officials, and the People. Nearly all the people, who don’t know this accurate information of a new currency, aren’t aware of mind control and brainwash methods. If I have my civil rights, then this message wouldn’t have happen.”

He lists reading under interests, as well as "conscience dreams," and among his favorite books are "Mein Kampf," the "Communist Manifesto," "Animal Farm" and "Brave New World."

In a comment posted on MySpace three months ago in connection with a video about Pima Community College, Loughner wrote: "Hello, I know you’re illiterate! This is the greatest protest for exposure into a wrongful act. The school is breaking the constitution. If you watch the video then you’ll understand. The teachers are taking advantage of you in the first and Fifth Amendment. The United States Constitution, which is the law, can be broken at this school. Thank you and goodnight! Jared"

His last writing on his MySpace page was just hours before the shooting.

"Goodbye friends," he wrote. "Please don't be mad at me."

God bless this Christian nation!

You right wing nutcakes are out to lunch with this. This murder was 100 % politically motivated. There's no ifs or buts about it.

You guys honestly don't think that your garbage printed and broadcasted over the past few years hasn't influenced this man? We've seen this trash in the debate over health care. In fact, we see it even today with people writing into the Dnews complaining about Obama's vacationing. Why? Because Sean Hannity this past weekend made it an issue. The right's never relenting attacks on "Liberals" is influencing more and more civil people to become uncivil, and more and more unbalanced people murders.

"I can't trust the current government,"

This has been the main theme for the past two years from fox, the tea baggers, and am radio.

In fact, there isn't one single quote from any of his videos that I haven't seen repeatedly on Glenn Beck's show.

In one video, he "claims that the College is illegal according to the U.S. Constitution.

All purchases for an educational course in The United States as of now are unconstitutional in the United States of America because of Section 10 in the United States of America's Constitution. A student paying for a Pima Community College course is a purchase for an educational course in the United States as of now. Therefore, a student paying for a Pima Community College course is unconstitutional in the United States of America because of Section 10 in the United States of America's Constitution.

How often conservatives have focused the last two years on what's constitutional and not. Lee in Utah won an election for being a "Constitutional Expert." His main goal is to repeal Obamacare since it's unconstitutional.

The government is implying mind control an
d brainwash on the people by controlling grammar."

How often have we heard about how the big old government is trying to take over everyone's lives?

You cannot tell me that these quotes, from famous conservative media members aren't having an effect on Americans:

The only [Katrina victims] we're seeing on television are the scumbags.

"So here you have Barack Obama going in and spending the money on embryonic stem cell research. ... Eugenics. In case you don't know what Eugenics led us to: the Final Solution. A master race! A perfect person. ... The stuff that we are facing is absolutely frightening."

"This president I think has exposed himself over and over again as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture....I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."

"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. ... No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out. Is this wrong?

You can't tell me these types of rants... With Beck acting as a Obama pouring gasoline upon a the man. Just watch this rant. I have no doubt that this crap is contributing to the hate overflowing in America:

I donna know? Where were you when threats were being made against Bush?

Was the person holding up this sign a major personage of the media being seen and trusted by millions of Americans?

See, that's the difference. I have no doubt terrible things were said about Bush. But they weren't being said nonstop by so many prominent members of the media. Today, you cannot watch or listen to one episode of Hannity, Rush, Beck, or O'Reiley without swallowing hatred. Those men are watched, listened to, and trusted by millions of Americans.

So it's clearly not the same as some random person with a "Kill Bush" sign.

The Tea Party and many of it's followers have promoted violence ever since it started. I'm surprised nothing happened sooner.

This is a terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with all those who have been affected. I hope for a speedy recovery for those who are still fighting to pull through. I will be attending a memorial vigil for those affected by this tragedy at the Utah state capitol this Wednesday. I encourage others to attend.

Here is Keith Olbermann with a special comment on the situation. I hope to not see more tragedies like the one we saw today.

Don't act like it doesn't come from both sides. Even Olbermann could admit that in that video. People talked about acting violent towards Bush all the time. Not to mention there was a mainstream "hypothetical assassination" film about Bush. Violent suggestions have been spoken about Beck, Hannity or Limbaugh....or even Palin.

There are many people I dislike on both sides but Olbermann is right in saying it has to stop now. Trying to put this one group of people does not do any good.

Again, threats by some random wackos are a different story, and are expected, especially against someone who did as many terrible things as GWB did. Many of these Tea Party personalities on TV/radio spread hate and encourage violence. I've never seen a liberal host say anything like that.

You are an idiot, watch Olbermann's video. He himself apologized for violent comments he made in the past.

First and foremost, thoughts and prayers to the victims and their family and friends. Such a sad story.

Second, the political douchenuggets of jazzfanz.com turn a tragedy into a political pissing contest. Grow up.
