Controversial Trade Idea: Draft Steven Adams and trade Kanter for a high 2014 pick.

Would you trade Kanter for a high projected 2014 pick, assuming you could draft Steven Adams ?

  • It hurts a bit, but yeah that's a smart move.

Only if we're guaranteed Wiggins or Jabari in return... but nobody can't guarantee that - so it's too risky for me.

There is another risk free way of getting a good 2014 pick, however......

For me, kanter is untouchable. I just like him too much, it may cloud my judgement, but i make no apologies for that.

The rationale would be that Adams is slightly taller/longer, a better athlete and a better shot blocker, letting Favors play out on the floor a bit more.

It's also based on the idea that Adams can keep improving enough to basically replace the things Kanter does, while trading in one card to get two back. If you're committed to rebuilding, you'd think about this seriously.

Adams + Favors is a daunting front court, and if we got a top 5 or 6 player in the 2014 draft, it creates more value overall.

I think I would do it depending on the 2014 pick I get back. Plus, the Jazz would lose more games this coming season and have their own pick in the lotto. That gives us two lottery picks in 2014 to go with the new Core 4 + #21 (Larkin/Wolters/Rice Jr./...).

The opportunity cost would be picking a point guard at #14, so maybe we make another move to get Dallas' pick.

We do that trade and we're even more likely to have a high 2014 pick from our own bad record. In other words, we could be looking at TWO high picks in 2014 and really increase our chances of landing Wiggins. Interesting idea...but I really do love Kanter.

Two 2014 picks that might include Wiggins/Randle/Parker/Harrison/Young....

Added to... Burks/Rice Jr./Hayward/Favors/Adams ....Southerland

That's just bedlam.

I might even do it if I were confident I'd get Aaron Harrison and Isaiah Austin in 2014, but part of the consideration is that I see as much raw talent in Adams as I see in Kanter. Kanter is definitely more polished right now though, no doubt.

No for me. Never ever. I think Kanter is a lock to be an all-star one day and a forever Jazz man.

A good GM is able to look at things dispassionately. I think it's a good move. While we're at it, I think I'd be willing to make a separate move, trading Burks for a draft pick that gets me Adams. I'm starting to really like that guy.

Alright. It's late and this is probably a bad idea. Kanter is probably too skilled to move.

Kanter and Hayward are untouchables for me. They make me happy even when we suck. Favors is getting like that too. I say HELL NO to trading any of them.

and I think there is a good chance Kanter is a better NBA player than Jabari. Or very similar talent wise.

Only Wiggins for Kanter truly would interest me. Wiggins will be a superstar.

If the Jazz were guaranteed two top 5 picks because of the trade I would probably do it.

No one can guarantee that though, so it's a no for me.

I wouldn't trade either at this point. There is no guarantee the Jazz get a top 3 pick in 2014 to grab either Wiggins, Randle or Parker. Besides the Jazz are just starting to see the potential of both Favors and Kanter. These guys are YOUNG and they work hard. They are going to improve immensely once they get their minutes.

I would rather trade Burks (I love the kid) to get a shot at the top spot but he hasn't proven himself worthy of that. What if the Jazz draft Adams and see if he is all that then come trade deadline time the Jazz will know better how much favors and kanter are worth and which teams to talk to about trading one of them. I still probably wouldn't do it.

Hey guys, anybody remember that we have only two pf/c players on the team right now? Who is going to back them up?

Draft Adams; keep Kanter. There is no reason not to except for getting a point guard.

However, he looks good enough with size, i'd bet he's gone before we pick which just pushes talented point guards down the line to us anyway.
