Core 4 (or 5) comparisons

So Dal, you think a ceiling of Pre injury Grant Hill for Hayward? Man, that is a good player. Probably better than anyone in the league right now other than Lebron and maybe KD... I hope you are right about that. Hayward is a kid who will work hard enough to reach his max potential.

I'll play....

For Kanter, he has the energy of Rony Seikaly and should try to keep developing post moves like Kevin McHale. Add a jump shot and we're good to go. I'm not seeing quite as much Bill Laimbeer toughness and wrestler mentality, but maybe some of that's unnecessary.

For Hayward, he should try to have the defensive impact of a Bobby Jones, shoot and drive like Dan Majerle, and pass like Hornacek.

Derrick Favors should go ahead and try to be Shawn Kemp or Antonio McDyess on offense. Right now, I'm seeing Kevin Willis--the borderline All Star Kevin Willis who averaged 15 boards and was unmovable on defense.

Jeremy Evans is basically Thadeus Young. He's lucky to be getting rotation minutes.

Trey Burke has been in the league for like 20 minutes, but I'm still seeing a Damon Stoudamire PG. Offensively can do things Jameer Nelson does, but he has better feel and slightly better speed. He's probably going to have a tough go of it when he matches up with Derek Rose and Russel Westbrook.

Alec Burks is a slightly unconventional player. I see a bit of a Jamal Crawford mentality, but he's more a slasher than a cross-up jump shooter. Players like Vernon Maxwell and Vincent Askew come to mind, but I think Burks is still defining himself as a player. Burks actually has the tools to do some of what Monta Ellis and James Harden do offensively.

This is the most realistic post of the thread so far, especially if you read with the qualifier that Burks will be able to some of what James Harden does on offense.

I see nothing wrong with his idol being Iverson. Everyone around that age who are about 6foot has Iverson as their idols. He was cool and you can't deny that. Anyway Burke has convinced me that he will look for the pass more.

I can deny that. Iverson was real tough, but I'd rather have Chris Paul be his goal over Iverson any day of the week.

You guys remind me of guys who try to convince themselves that some chick that they are with is hot. You have to reallllly squint your eyes to see these comparisons.

Haha, nice. I have to agree with you. I'm not convinced any of these players can develop anywhere near that level.

Although, I do like how universal Gordon's game has reached. I can see him continually getting better every year, like a certain Millsap we know. Although, Gordon has a much better passing game and outside shot. Millsap developed that outside shot but it was so slow that he could only use it when left alone. I'd say for Gordon to study Bird and Magic. Both players were bigger than him but could really handle the ball. Maybe mix some Maravich in there for fun. ;)

I also really like Evans game. He's another player that keeps getting better every year as well as being an intelligent player. He's such a good floor spacer and even a good passer at that high post. The Jazz don't utilize that very well at all. Maybe Evans could study Donyell Marshall's game a bit more and extend his range to the 3-pt line? That would be stellar!

It's too early to tell on some of the new players. However, I like what I've seen from Holiday. He has a nice outside shot and doesn't make any crazy mistakes. Again, it's tough to say for sure because I've only seen the scrimmage and the first game. Listening on the radio doesn't cut it.

Everyone else needs to settle down or they're veterans and we know they can play. Lucas and Jefferson are solid, but how long are we going to keep them if they continue to play well this season?

The point is, I like players who know how to relax and just play their game. They don't worry about the crowd, be it at home or away. They just like to play the game of basketball. I like to call them "gym rats". Stockton & Jordan are the best examples of gym rats. They'd play anywhere with anyone as long as the competition was high. If it wasn't then they'd embarrass you pretty quickly. I can also see players like Hornacek, Magic, Nash, the Barry family, the Curry family, etc, being that way as well. I mention that because I can see guys like Hayward and Evans and maybe Burks being that way more so than others.

Anyway, Go Jazz! :)

By ceiling, I refer to the fact that if he jut improves as much as humanly possible. He gets a solid ball-handle, develops a mid-range game, develops a post game, and gets better rebounding instincts.

I don't think hell ever hit that ceiling-- the pre-injury Grant Hill remark is just one of those "with the physical gifts, and the BBIQ he has, if everything possible goes absolutely right (which it won't) then maybe he could become pre-injury Grant Hill.

Pegging the odds of that at like 1% though. His handle is still too loose.
