Could you / would you parlay Westbrook?

Rehab Simmons' value. Give it a year from now. Either he's good and you want to keep him or... imagine if you even could get a return of 75% of what his value used to be? Or even 50%? That's a huge return. Obviously there's risk with him not regaining his value, but that'd be huge to parlay Simmons into any kind of possible return of his previous value. It'd be humongous getting that at the cost of a guy we were going to buy out.
I would need 3 picks... its 100% dead money to me. I would hate the side show associated with rehabbing his value. He's not someone I'd want in my locker room. Even at three picks I'd be pissed we did it... how much money would I have to give you to have treatable Cancer?

What has a higher chance:

Ben Simmons back and mental health returns to normal and he is very good again

Lonzo Ball's knee recovers and he is very good again.

Probably Ben Simmons being good again. I think Utah would actually be good for him. No expectations and it is low-key.

Lonzo and its not close for me. The downside is Lonzo sits out and hangs around the team... the downside on Simmons is so much worse.

The guy likely has some mental health issues... his biggest issues imo are he's a dick and he doesn't really like playing basketball... he likes being famous. Ever tried to get someone to change that doesn't want to change?

Simmons is DONE as an NBA player. When will people learn?

Even ignoring his bad back (and you should never ignore bad backs on bigs), he wants to be a point guard who dominates the ball but won't shoot. That won't fly anymore in 2023. He's made it clear that he won't change or develop his game for anyone or stop shooting with the wrong hand.

Hardest of hard passes.

He's playing positive basketball right now....

If you told me we traded for Lonzo and got no assets for doing it... I'd be like "not my best use of space but fine". Anything less than 3 picks on BS and I'd probably have to check out for a while.

So why doesn't the Nets just wait for Westbrook to be bought out then go get him wihtout having to trade Simmons? Is that not possible?
Because they want off of Simmons contract. They would likely waive Westbrook after the deal.

Two unprotected firsts plus a swap this year to get the better of the BKN/PHI firsts?

Kinda I guess... and they baby the **** out of him because any criticism and he shuts down... "positive basketball" still makes him a huge net negative when you figure his contract and the other stuff that comes with him... 3 picks or get the hell outta my face.

Do both. Any chance we could do a three-way that sends Clarkson to a team and gets us back Ball and some other kind of draft compensation?
