Countdown to Game #1 - Utah Jazz @ Sacramento Kings

Weapons pulled out of the bag: Exum, Ingles, Favors, Gobert, Burks
Weapons left on the shelve: Thabo (permit violation), Allen (not time to break in), Udoh
Weapons that under performed: Rubio, Royce
Donovan underperformed too. He got his 24 points, but that wasn't a good DM game.

That was a good game! The young Kings were on a rampage to start the 1st and 3rd q's, Burks and Exum looked great and stopped a lot of the bleeding.

Willie Cauley Stein has improved so much its crazy to see the quality takes he's going at Rudy like that.

Derrick Favors was hilariously unstoppable, completely mauled Harry Giles -- Welcome to the league kid! Favors looked about as strong as all the Kings bigs combined in this game.

Ingles starts off the season blisteringly hot.

De'Aaron Fox looked good, even vs Exum who's a game defender.
Agree on all counts. Kings looked pretty good out there. Bjelica is a defensive liability of significant proportions, but he had a very good offensive game. WCS finally looks like a force to be reckoned with.

I was glad to see that the Jazz buckled down and got their composure back after the rough start and didn't let this game slip out of hand. I was also glad to hear the post game comments where they recognized their deficiencies and that they need to come out stronger and more focused from here on out. It was a good early lesson that you can't underestimate any team in this league.

Rewatching the game 3:02 left in yhe second, Rudy gets burned in transition and Joe just rips into him. Intense.

Man, Rubio played what has to be the worst game of his career: Missed shots, turnovers (the very few good passes he had didn't add points because the shooter would miss the layup), bad defense, in foul trouble early because of a stupid foul on a 3, plus when he had to stop Cauley-Stein going for the dunk because Rudy didn't get back in time... and on and on. It felt like he had a grey cloud raining on top of him from the start. Next stop Curry, which doesn't bode well, but he tends to play him great.

It speaks volumes that it was a W. Great TEAM effort. Exum & Burks & Jae were amazing. Ingles is a boss.

Did you miss the first 3 months of last season?

^^I've looked into it and he had many stinkers, but this one probably tops them.

I've seen them all and you're right - this was his worst game with Utah.

Even two of his assists were bogus - one was on a loose ball after he got stripped that he tapped to Favors and another was where Sac completely blew a rotation - Yinka Dare could have gotten an assist on that play.

When he completely Harpring'ed that breakaway MLA early in the game I was immediately concerned.

And his defense was worse.

I'll be the first to admit he's made me eat my words in the past - let's hope he can do it again.

Missed that but probably is a good indicator to the strength of our team is everything, they tight like that.

Really interesting to see the Jazz play at exactly the tempo the Kings wanted to play at. Generally Quinn's genius is to make the other team play at a tempo they don't enjoy. A week ago they were pressing the Kings and then they backed off that completely.

That was as good a game as the Kings were able to play. We beat that on the road. It has been a long time since the Jazz were able to do things like that.

Finally, Exum vs. Fox is pretty good television.

Is Ingles going to be better than Hayward this year? Will GH be a poor man’s Ingles? Obviously he has a huge contract so you could argue a rich man’s overpaying Ingles?

It will be interesting to see if Hayward can keep his numbers up in more of a supportive role. That team belongs to Irving and Tatum now.

It’s ok. No one seemed to catch the fact Rubio shot an ft in that instance LMAO, from the refs to our announce team. That was weird. At one point They thought Crowder had shot all three. I was watching and confused at everyone’s confusion.

Umm no, he played 26.

Not game related but the two (somewhat realistic and sometimes discussed) guys I have really wanted the jazz to somehow get both had great games last night.
Niko Mirotic: 30 minutes, 11-20 from the field, 6-8 from three (!), 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 30 points
Aaron Gordon: 38 minutes, 9-18 from the field, 4-5 from three, 16 rebounds and 26 points.
