Countdown to Trump using the military against Americans

This so much.

Imagine if there were protests right now. Mass protests, similar to the George Floyd ones in every city. His “proud boys” would pretend to be protesters and would attack teslas, destroy property, and otherwise muddy up these anti Trump protests. Whether they be protesting Dodge, protesting the deportations, or protesting Donald’s attacks on universities. His militias would frame these protests and Fox News and the right wing propaganda apparatus would use the protests as preconditions for a real explicit right wing takeover of the government. Mass incarcerations, takeovers of entire media platforms, and a crackdown of people whom Trump hates.
Probably how it is actually going to go down.

You get that these are violent criminals right? Please tell me you understand that.

They very well may be.

If the government wants to prove that then take them to court and lock them up in prison here, go right ahead. If you want to deport them back to Venezuela (or other) and let them handle it from there, go for it.

Locking them up without trial in another country that many of them have never been to is a disgusting human rights abuse.

Why should we assume they’re criminals?

They’re innocent until proven guilty, right?

And Trump lies… a lot. What has he done to prove that we can trust what he says? In fact, I tend to believe the opposite. If he calls them violent criminals and terrorists, I question more. Again, he’s lied endlessly about too many other things.

Also, he’s a ****ing racist. It was just 6 months ago he was accusing Haitian immigrants in Ohio of eating pets. A complete ****ing lie.

A race issue would be handy, students are too white , too similar to middle America to use as the starting point for state violence. A race issue would be very handy.

Donald Trump's New Order Sparks 'Martial Law' Concerns

Story by Sophie Clark

President Donald Trump has ordered federal agencies to increase the flow of military and national security equipment to local law enforcement, a move that has raised concerns about the militarization of policing across the United States.

Why It Matters

Research into militarized police forces has found the practice can erode public trust, escalate encounters between police and citizens and blur the distinction between military operations and domestic law enforcement.

This executive order specifically has increased fears around an encroachment toward martial law. The president has already called for his government to review the Insurrection Act, which would give more domestic power to the military, and now wants to provide regular law enforcement with militaristic material.

The "Strengthening and Unleashing America's Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens" executive order, which the president signed on Monday, directs Attorney General Pam Bondi and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, in consultation with Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and other agency heads, to "increase the provision of excess military and national security assets in local jurisdictions" within 90 days.

The directive gives the attorney general and the secretary of defense a three-month deadline to begin expanding the provision of military and national security resources to "assist state and local law enforcement."

While the order does not specify the types of equipment that will be made available, past programs involving the transfer of military gear to police departments have included armored vehicles, tactical equipment and surveillance technology.

The order also stipulates, "Within 90 days of the date of this order, the secretary of defense, in coordination with the attorney general, shall determine how military and national security assets, training, non-lethal capabilities, and personnel can most effectively be utilized to prevent crime."

In addition to bolstering local law enforcement agencies, the White House has moved to expand the role of the U.S. miliary in domestic law enforcement. Earlier this month, Trump issued a presidential memorandum that directed the military to take a more direct role in securing the southern border, with the ability to detain and search individuals in the New Mexico National Defense Area.

What People Are Saying

Political scientist Joel Montfort on X, formerly Twitter: "Truly terrifying executive order from DJT [Donald J. Trump]. All local law enforcement will now use aggressive tactics to police cities, and when they break the law, those big law firms who caved will represent them pro bono. Martial Law is starting."

Chris Stoecker, a columnist for German current affairs magazine Der Spiegel, wrote on X: "This is highly worrying. Trump has issued an executive order that basically is supposed to make it possible to use military forces as 'law enforcement' and paves the way for militias 'aiding' the police with legal impunity. They are preparing to violently quash expected riots."

What Happens Next

The Department of Justice and the Department of Defense are expected to develop and initiate the expanded transfer program by July 27, according to the order.

Details on the types of military equipment to be distributed, the criteria for local agency eligibility and oversight measures are expected to emerge as the agencies work to fulfill the directive.

I thought these militias and gun nuts were supposed to prevent a dictator from taking power? I was told that dead children was the price we all had to pay to prevent authoritarianism from taking over? I guess that was a lie? I guess dead kids is the price we pay so the black president can’t institute modest gun reform after Sandy Hook? And 10ish years after the fact, the gun nuts help a white right winger take power.

Fascinating.

If, or when, Trump’s power is threatened:

But if the Trump-Hegseth threats have little purpose as law enforcement, they signify great purpose as political strategy. Since Trump’s reelection, close observers of his presidency have feared a specific sequence of events that could play out ahead of midterm voting in 2026:

Step 1: Use federal powers in ways to provoke some kind of made-for-TV disturbance—flames, smoke, loud noises, waving of foreign flags.

Step 2: Invoke the disturbance to declare a state of emergency and deploy federal troops.

Step 3: Seize control of local operations of government—policing in June 2025; voting in November 2026.

Some of Trump’s most fervent supporters urged him to follow this plan in November 2020. But in 2020, they waited too long—until after the votes were cast. Using the military to overturn an election already completed was too extreme a step for a Department of Defense headed by a law-respecting Cabinet secretary such as Mark Esper. Trump looked to the courts instead. Only after the courts disappointed him did Trump attempt violence, and then the only available tool of violence was the lightly armed mob he summoned to Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021. Harrowing as those events were, they never stood much chance of success: Without the support of any element of the military, Trump’s rioters could not impose the outcome Trump wanted.

But the methods Trump threatened in Los Angeles this weekend could be much more effective in November 2026 than the attempted civilian coup of January 2021.

If Trump can incite disturbances in blue states before the midterm elections, he can assert emergency powers to impose federal control over the voting process, which is to say his control. Or he might suspend voting until, in his opinion, order has been restored. Either way, blue-state seats could be rendered vacant for some time.

To coin a proverb, one fascism scholar is an expert; two is an unlawful gathering. So today we talked with scholars of fascism Ruth Ben-Ghiat and Jason Stanley (and 4,100 readers) about whether Donald Trump’s disproportionate response to anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles puts the United States further down the path towards a police state — or opens up possibilities for an effective and sustained mass response.

Both suggest that Trump is over-responding to the Los Angeles protests as “insurance” — he’s not concerned these protests specifically; like the military parade planned for next week, it’s about habituating Americans to seeing force on the streets, to pressure people not to protect their neighbors and communities, because the regime is weak, not strong. And as benefits stop and the economy contracts, Ruth suggests, a reckoning — and a real mass movement — is on the way.

What does that look like? As Jason told us, it’s going to require something new. “Fascism is a revolution,” he says, “and you cannot defeat a revolution by returning to the status quo.” “When we resist,” says Ruth, “we’re modeling a different ethos — becoming part of something bigger.”

100%. As everything with The Rapist it's a test to see what he can get away with and so far he's gotten away with assuming borderline unassailable power.

It’s feels like we’re headed for a “something has to give” situation that will be jaw dropping. Very difficult years ahead.

I agree. Just because we are the USA doesn't make us any different than Turkey or Hungary where elections mean nothing and dictators rule. Now The Rapist has sent in active military Marines. What are the odds there's an honest election in 2028? Or even 2026?

I honestly thought that such orders would be disobeyed. I suppose the Marines haven't killed any U.S. civilians yet. I guess I'll wait to be horrified when that happens.

Standing by to stand by.
