Creating Matter From Light

That sounds cool. But what would we be able to do with that ability? What practical applications are there? Medical, energy?

scientific ignorance.

This technology, when we have mastered it, will be as useful as electricity. It ranks right up there with the idea of saving the planet with electric commuter trolleys.

Once we can make hydrogen, and store it, and do controlled fusion in little gold engines and convert the heat into steam to drive a generator turbine, we can dispense with the overhead wires and use our electric vehicles anywhere we want to go.

The main obstacle is how to prevent Al Gore from monopolizing "hydrogen credits".

How dare we not know something!!! The nerve!!!! I hope people's horses kick them in the face.

In all seriousness, that is cool. It sounds like it will revolutionize the auto industry.

However what are potential medical tech advances from this? Agriculture? Communication?

Was just fishing to see what people come up with as I don't know.

We don't know if there will be any. The pure knowledge comes first, and then the practical applications may or may not be realized.

True but people with different knowledge in different fields can imagine probable applications.

funny.

How dare we fail to laugh at ourselves.

Seriously, we are pushing the envelope on insanity every direction we turn. I am impressed you knew I was trying to be funny.

Medicine? Agriculture? Communication? This is like figuring out how to unburn a log of wood. As prosaic as it sounds, that's impressive. I bet somebody will figure out how to use this technology to make lead out of gold.

And then somebody else will figure out how to make gold out of lead.

Having nuclear subs created the problem of what to do with all the CO2 generated by the human hayburners that operate it. So Navy scientists learned to harness some of the energy to reduce CO2 stepwise back to methane and even higher hydrocarbons that can be used to polish the steel floors, and walls. As impractical as that is, there are some reasons why in some situations it is worth doing.

Navy is also still researching cold fusion. . . . .

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to babe again
