current Jazz player values--statistically

After the Clippers' game I got thinking of what a good value Milsap is. This is an attempt to quantify his and other Jazz players value. I started with salary/hollinger per rating and the results didn't really seem to say much, so I tried salary/win share.

Cliff notes, if you throw out guys on rookie contracts, Sap is the best value of the current ws leaders. Howard also ranks second to Sap in this regard, though it is likely you would find other players in that range if you ran numbers for the whole league.

It would get even better if the statistic were weighed by games played, since ws increase with games played, and many of the players have played more games than the Jazz.

I found a s/ws comparison for the top 30 highest paid players last year.
link Keep in mind that this is ws for the year and the above jazz is ws for 13 games.

Pointless s/e info and references below

So what is a good s/e number?
Top rating at c, pf, sf is $5x,***
sg is $35,***
pg is $82,***

The top player in every category is always on a rookie contract which is not surprising for obvious reasons.

Best rating not on a rookie contract:
c Kwame Brown $95,291
pf Kris Humphries $178,771
sf Grant Hill $218,919
sg Keith Bogans $127,371
pg Luke Ridnour $264,901

I imagine you might start to see a decent s/e number if you used a min per ranking, but the above info wasn't making sense, so I stopped and looked at ws data instead which appears to be a better metric.

I found articles on hoopsworld that show comparisons for last season:
pg info
sg info
sf info
pf info

center info

Current salary Info from ShamSports

PER from: Hollinger ESPN

WS from: basketball reference

I have no idea what the hell I just read.

All I saw was that Chucker was near the bottom of the list, and I wasn't surprised.

I believe some scientist will benefit the findings of this thread, someday. the people aren't ready for this knowledge yet.

No way, Locke is annoying and stupid, this post was good.

Kevin loves value is about to drop after he gets his fat extension. But he will still be worth it.

Yep yep.

I've never understood using salary in stats like this though.
Salary is crucial because of the CBA. You can't spend unlimited, and the Jazz are not typically willing to even spend the max the CBA allows them, so bang for your buck is huge! Otherwise Howard and CP3 in Miami or wherever.

I threw out the PER numbers because the best bang for your buck non rookie guys had average PER numbers, so I didn't give it much weight. The Win Shares had a lot more stars and superstars at the top of the list.

I did my best not to cherry pick, but I would be interested to hear any other insights which is why I posted it in the first place.
