What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

If they went after Ant who's definitely NOT on Kyrie's timeline, why not just go for the traditional rebuild package like young players + picks? With Luka they are almost guarantee to have a shot at acquiring any great young talent maybe with the exception of Wemby. And IMO twolves is absolutely foolish to not take Luka for Ant. Ant's absolute ceiling might not be as good as the player that Luka is right now.

But I think this source isn't true cuz Nico said he only spoke with the Lakers and if the Bucks & wolves knew they were shopping Luka, it's unlikely for them to keep the whole thing a secret for this long.
How is Ant not on Kyrie's timeline? He's a top 10 player right now. That's on the timeline.

Edwards is under contract for 5 years. Luka has 2 more years. Unless you got an absolute promise from Luka he would stay in Minny long-term, it's an easy no-brainer to say no. Mavs would have to give me assets to take Luka for Edwards.

1, Ant is not a top 10 player. He’s more of a top 15 player who has the potential to be a top 10 player in the future.

And 2, Kyrie is 9 yr older than Ant. By the time Ant enters his prime, Kyrie will be way past his. They are not on each other's timeline.

Would you trade 3 yrs of KAT for 1 yr rental of Julius Randle? That's why you are not the Wolves GM.

Ant is definitely a top 10 player.

The KAT/Randle trade was probably a factor of the ownership squabble that was going on. Not because the GM wanted to do it.

Famously no one wins championship unless all their best players are within 3 years of each other.

That was a money thing so intertwined with ownership for sure. No idea which group has deeper pockets or willingness to pay.
