What's new

Damn .. Rondo

He's unique. There are games where I can hardly tell he's playing. Other games where he just blows up the box score.

Yesterday was one of those games where I could hardly tell he was playing (prior to those 2 long bombs he hit after Pierce fouled out). And honestly, from what I've seen out of Boston this year, I'm not too impressed with Rondo.

He's unique... And is Boston's #2 best player now. But he's the type of guy that improves an already good/great team.

He's not the "take over the game" type PG that most elites are. Even Nash can take over games (scoring) when he has to. Even Stockton took over scoring many times. I'm not so certain that his lack of a jumper and poor FT % enables him to take over games scoring-wise. I also question his ability to create without KG's illegal screens. Seriously folks, KG would foul out in the 1st quarter if the refs called him for just half of those illegal screens he commits.

We'll soon see what Rondo has. Boston will need Rondo to take over games (scoring) if they hope to beat Miami.

The first and only level-headed post in this entire threads.

Rep'd.

Finally a guy who doesn't drool over Rondo like some savior. I usually respect PKM's take on things, but his crush over Rondo in this thread is blinding him big time.

Why does Boston want to get rid of Rondo anyway?
They made it to final four with him.
He's still young.
Celts need to get rid of older guys like KG, Allen, Pierce.

Ironic how the guy that agrees with you is called level-headed. Just be out with it and say that you don't want to change your opinion.

I will agree that his lack of jumper and poor FT % are concerns. However, he does have the ability to drive at will, he can get to the line and while he may not be making all of his FT shots, he is putting the other team in foul trouble.

On another note, you're telling me that the guy who has been averaging 15 ppg, 12 apg, almost 7 rpg and almost 3 spg isn't able to take over a game? Are you being serious right now? Here's a guy who plays elite defense, gets the ball to his playmakers, can create offense when he wants to and his only weaknesses are that he has a shaky jumper...and you're telling me he isn't taking over the game? That's just ridiculous.

I wonder how many of those assists would translate in a different team that doesn't have Pierce, Allen or Garnett. These guys are Elite shooters. Not just good shooters - they are ELITE.

BTW he shot 24% for the year at 3pt. That'll do wonders to our flex offense which only really work properly when you have shooters stretching the defense & opening up the middle.

Suffice it to say that neither of us are going to convince the other. I'm in awe there even is a debate on this.. But that's cool. Next subject.

He is a good/great player. But as you've said Boston will be wanting Favors and if you're weighing up Favors vs Rondo, it's not even worth thinking about or considering.

I don't think PKM and I are arguing Favors vs Rondo, we're just arguing that Rondo shouldn't be called overrated. Well, that's what I'm doing, PKM can tell you if I'm wrong about what he's doing.

Calling Paul Pierce an elite shooter is very much a stretch, Ray Allen obviously is (even though during this years playoffs he's shooting 41% overall and 27% from 3) and Garnett obviously has a good mid-range shot, but it isn't as on as it used to be. So, Pierce = not an elite shooter, Allen = elite shooter but shooting terribly during the current playoff series and Garnett is good. Rondo is still averaging 12 APG with that, Boston doesn't have people shooting any better than what we did this year, they just have the reputation that they do.

Yeah well this is a Jazz forum. So if I'm not mistaken this thread was not originally created in the "General NBA" section?

In relation to the Jazz - PKM has confirmed it's out of the realm of possibility to not involve Favors in any trade for Rondo. That's that.

So if we're only praising Rondo's Greatness I would suggest we move this to the General NBA section.

Well, your first post in this thread was detailing how you didn't think Rondo would be a good fit for the Jazz and essentially said he was overrated. You never made any mention towards a trade or how we could attain Rondo in said post. I'm just continuing that discussion in showing how Rondo isn't overrated and how he would fit in just fine in Utah.

You may now continue to backpedal and deflect as much as you like.

Please show me where I expressly said he was "overrated".

If you will re-read my post, you will notice how I did not say you used the word "overrated", but rather that you ESSENTIALLY said he was overrated. You went on detailing what you think his weaknesses are and how that makes him a player you think wouldn't be a good player here. In my mind, that would mean "overrated".

I also eagerly await a response to how those "elite" shooters are helping out Rondo pile up assist numbers during this current playoff series.

You've got it wrong then. Everything I've said was in relation to the Jazz organisation. In my opinion:

- His lack of 3pt shooting is not ideal in a flex offense
- His attitude problems he had in Boston despite having Doc, Allen, etc on the team

And finally:

- The fact that we'd have to trade Favors (PKM confirmed this) to get him is a definite NO NO.

So case closed in relation to the Jazz.

You can keep worshipping him in General NBA, but here on the Jazz forum, IMO, it's no longer relevant.

I prefer my pg to not want to take over games with his scoring. Rondo doesn't need to have the ball in his hands for 15 seconds. Rondo keeps the ball moving setting up lots of cuts to the hoop and open shots on the perimeter, and when the offense is in a rut he's a guy who will take it to the hoop. I dare someone to find a pg that can consistently stay in front of Rondo when he wants to get to the rim, and if the big over commits to stoping his drive Favors is going to get a dunk.

One last thing a 15/12/12 game is taking over a game.
