Can't Trey just come off the bench? Hell, I don't care if Trey starts if he plays backup minutes. I hope Snyder is the type of coach that plays the better talent in the impact roles.

I don't think it will be that difficult, TBH. And I think there are five clear starters. As a rookie with no college experience, I don't think Exum expects to be a starter. Also doubt Hood has that expectation.
PG: Burke (32); Exum (16)
SG: Burks (32); Exum (16)
SF: Hayward (35); Hood (13)
PF: Kanter (30); Novak (18)
C: Favors (30); Gobert (18)

Evans should get some playing time as will another PG. With injuries, it may be more accurate to allot more mins for each position when putting in "per game" averages. I don't see a problem starting off the season. It may get trickier at mid-year when it becomes obvious to everyone that Exum >>>>> Burke. And it could also be interesting if Tomic comes over.

Egos get in the way. Trey was drafted as a starter and will not want to be seen as a bench player. Nor would his agent. It would kill the value of his non-rookie contract when it comes up.
 
I am a bit worried that the narrative that's being pushed by the media and by the coaching staff is "look how good Trey and Exum played together". It's a bit early to count out Trey completely, but you could just see how stale the play became when the ball was in his hands, compared to when it was in Dante's. I think we haven't had the chance to see just how much Trey slows down the game, simply because none of our other PGs last season were as dynamic and fast on their feet and in their mind as Dante is. And now that we had the chance to see them play in the same game, the contrast is quite striking. Unfortunately, I think Trey should be either a trading piece or a back up and I don't know how he would take not starting because of a rookie.

He could. But then this brings up issues of personality and maturity.

I completely agree. And while we need a backup, if Trey isn't willing to take that role, it would most likely be best to move him. The Jazz should really look at bringing Neto over. IIRC he isn't under contract right now, so there would be no buyout. If we wait it may be harder to bring him over.

Regardless of if he's willing to take that role or not, he might just have to. Exum oozes potential every time the ball is in his hands. He's going to be thrilling to watch, and they're going to build around him. Trey Burke simply isn't good enough to throw a hissy fit about a demotion. I like Trey. I hope he can find his niche on this team, but I wouldn't trade him unless he becomes a cancer in the locker room. I don't really see that in him, even if he is demoted to a 6th man role.

I really like those lineups and minutes
 
and new exciting coach! This is what we should have done last year, though we probably wouldn't have gotten exum and would've hated the new coach for sucking.
