What's new

Dante Exum is back and bigger. Already.

Listened to an interview with Dennis Lindsay yesterday. He mentioned that he wasn't sure Dante was any taller, but he is noticeably thicker. He mentioned that Exum's dad was a very strong/big player and if Exum has his dad's girth he could fill out a lot over the next couple of years.

Physically, Exum is already a special player. The only question is can he put it together mentally and get back to attacking. If he can, we have a superstar on this team. Easily our best player.

I'm getting bored so I'll stop after this. The chart illustrates data that helps us to test the reasonableness of the hypothesis. There is no data point on the chart that says "Dante Exum, 2015" so you cannot glean particular data from an average, so on this point you are merely stating the obvious. It is possible for a 19 year old to grow 1" in a year, I made that point earlier. Is is "plenty possible"? I'm not sure how much "plenty" is but gosh, I hope so I'd love to have a more freakishly long/tall PG. The data informs us that this is unlikely, not that it is impossible. Have a great day.

I grew nearly 2 inches on my mission. And I got taller too.

Gobert would certainly have something to say about that. . . but it would be nice to debate which of our young, stud superstars is better.

I predict a ranking of best (most valuable) jazz players next year like this

Gobert
Hayward
Favors
Burks (would not be surprised at all if he is higher on this list by the end of the year..... I would be shocked if he is any lower though)
Hood
Booker
Jingles
Dante
Draft pick
Trey

I think it takes a pretty crazy leap for anyone to bump Gobert, Favors, or Hayward from the top 3. I like the list, though. My one optimistic change would be to move Dante up over Ingles and (hopefully) Booker.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but this thread got me thinking. What are some of the other lies about Dante? It seems like the media is just spoon feeding us propaganda. I thought I'd explore this using the new scientific method of averages. The results are startling.

Not only did Dante NOT grow an inch this last year, he's only 5'8.75" according to the average height for Australian males. https://www.averageheight.co/average-male-height-by-country No wonder he struggles to finish at the rim!

The average Australian male is 37.5 years old. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2177.html
So, where does Dante get off telling us he's only 19!!!?? He's clearly older! And the Jazz should give careful consideration to the possibility that he's already peaked as a basketball player.

That's all I have time for right now, but I'm looking at some new data using mode (instead of median or mean) that calls into question everything we think we know about the kid. Just to give you a little teaser, Dante might not even be Australian OR male.

Ya I'm sure I'm too hard on Dante. Last year I thought he was like a poor mans rubio.
Next year I hope he can be a middle class rubio.

I just don't value perimeter players that are only effective on the defensive end. I have never been a big fan of Tony Allen, matt barnes, elijah millsap types. Im fine with bigs who are only effective on defense (Ben Wallace, eaton, deandre, gobert, etc) but I think perimeter players need to be better offensively before I value them much

The thing with Dante is we don't know who he is yet. The player the Jazz drafted (a driving, attacking guard with suspect outside shot and no defense) is not the player that played for the Jazz (a timid, limited offensive player with a good outside shot and very good defense). If Exum can merge those two...watch out.

I'm so excited for summer league. I want to see how handles lower competition. If he comes out and dominates...get excited.

with a good outside shot

I think saying his outside shot is good is being very generous.
32% from three.
35% from the field
Rarely gets to the line and when he does he shoots 62%.

And he mostly only shot the ball when he was wide open.

I would say that shooting is still one of his weaknesses

I think, based on pre-draft concerns, that his shot looks much better technically than it did in highlight prior to the Jazz drafting him. I have hopes that the percentages will rise with experience. The point being made was that his shot was better than many of us expected it to be based on scouting reports.

I agree
Better than expected.

Not good though
