The Jazz have a lot of faith in Exum. He has elite speed and length and possibly defense. a lot of the potential he had when we drafted him is still there. He has demonstrated a good attitude and ability to work hard through adverse conditions. The gamble is that this year may be an overpay but subsequent years become a bargain. We shall see.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Jazz are well over the cap. They can get well under next year if a top-tier FA comes a-knockin'. Paying Exum and Favors a couple million more changes nothing, except it avoids acrimonious negotiations and hard feelings. Both these guys come in well-fed and happy. Other players see the Jazz FO wants to be more than fair with the players. Win-win all the way around. Even if Dante never lives up to his potential, three years at $11m is hardly crippling.

Agreed. The cap will go up by more than the yearly value of his deal in the next few years. Won't hurt anything in the end.

You are right they are both based on per 100. But their calculations for NBA take in extra data that they have access to. They want their stats to be better than other places.

I find stats.nba contradicting itself quite often. Look at exum's shooting defense on his page vs the league page. Different numbers.
 
Exum’s contract is 9.6 million a year flat with incentives that can take it as high as 11 a year. So if doesn’t get better we have him for under 10 mill a year. His total can actually go down to 9.1 mill if he under performs

Wow.. that makes the deal even better.
 
I wonder how much of the incentives are based on #of games played (DNP CD don't count), vs on the floor stats.
Maybe a kicker for MIP or something.

To incentivize the contract as much as they did, they are daring Exum to get better and be healthy. I gotta imagine an MIP kicker would be huge.
