At this rate, exums TRUE rookie year won't be until he is out of the league in a couple years

Shaw was a big guard (6'6) with a quick feet for someone his size and a somewhat good court vision. He wasn't a typical PG of the 90s, as far as I remember, since he didn't seem to be able to get into the lane and create. As far as running the offense, he just did the basics. Shaw never become a full-time SG also, because couldn't be counted to score due to a lack of shooting touch or explosive moves.

Dude, why bother replying at all if you havent looked? As they say, Opinions are like *******, everyone has them. I was just trying to bring a different perspective. Some f***tards on here think Payton schooled Dante in the 1st qtr when Orlando put up 42... He played on him for 2 minutes! Rest of his time was on DJ who he kept to 0.

I created this thread because I was genuinely asking if anyone was seeing what I was?? Surely, there are a few basketball coaches or people interested in analysis on here??

I never asked for anyone's opinion on Dante, I already know it!!! Through the pages and pages of opinions in other threads.

F*** me for trying to dig a little deeper aye.

I agree with what you said and also don't understand why we turned to Neto as an alternative to Dante given Dante wasn't exactly being scored on rather the opposing point guard happened to be scoring whilst Dante was on the court (on switches). Whilst for the brief period Dante was on the court against the Suns we ran the offence through Hayward who had a mismatch.
 
I think a good comparison with Dante, so far as our expectations and the board's reaction, is Kanter. I remember we all were optimistic about Kanter's potential and gradually he was improving but after a couple of years we became frustrated with him. Finally, Kanter himself became frustrated and asked to be traded. Now you can't say Kanter is a great player but with OKC he certainly has developed into a solid offensive player though still pretty bad on defense. But since he was a high pick we expected him to become a franchise player which he never will be. Same thing with Dante. He has some obvious weaknesses right now and I think physical strength is a major one. His lack of offensive ability is also apparent, and part of that is lack of confidence. However, he does have some strengths: quick first step and good court vision, two important assets for a PG. As for his defense, I thought in the beginning of the year, he looked pretty good. Not sure why that has fallen off. But I think our inflated expectations have caused us to downgrade his value.

And that's why it is always better to be e realist. I never expected anything more than backup PG from Dante, I hated where he was picked and I did not buy the hype. I just did not see any star potential and saw too many flaws in his game. Realistically he should have been late 20's pick and nobody would be disappointed with it now.. But since he was such a high pick with unrealistic expectations we have this situation now. Just write it off as failed pick and move on. History is full of those.

Nice comp... hadn't thought of him. Always thought he was a better shooter than his percentages but that looks like a realistic expectation.

I think we should trade Exum if there are any decent offers. Move on... use his 5M next year for something else. Cut our losses and forge ahead.

Probably, a good idea, and sign Teodosic, who wants to play here, unless Dante begins to step it up. Look for a guard who is a good perimeter defender. We could then trade Mack, and have Neto as our third PG.

Two words for why that probably doesn't happen: Mo Williams. Exum has size and speed. And he has shown brief flashes. Jazz would be selling low right now and be taking a chance he still develops. IMO, Utah should see him as a developmental 3rd string PG. We have 3 3rd-stringers right now. Mack and Neto need to be moved for a legit backup PG (or combo guard). Maybe Teodosic is that solution next year. Of course, I'm also counting on Hill returning. If he doesn't and Hayward leaves, may as well play for a high lottery pick.

What does Mo got to do with it?

If he has value I think it may be as high as it gets. He may have none or very little... if that's the case I agree. I don't see an opportunity for him to increase his value because he won't get the PT he needs. I guess if we lose Hayward and Hill then yeah, but I'm not ready to think about that.

I find it pretty unreal that some are completely dismissing him as a bust right now. He was the most raw of long term projects to begin with, but now after the ACL and he's struggling to find his feet he's a bust already ? Incredibly shortsighted. Just out of curiosity, how many posters of that view thought Joe Ingles wasn't a legitimate NBA player for his first 1-2 years (and this is with years of international experience) ???

We'd better hope he's a bunch better next year cause i have a feeling we aren't going to be able to pay George Hill.

Well he may not be dismissed as complete bust. For example is Marvin Williams a bust? He had decent NBA career, but for nr. 2 pick I think he is a bit of disappointment. Same fate I am afraid is awaiting Dante, I think he will be decent backup PG with solid defense but he won't be a star like some here hoped.

fair enough .. good comp with Marvin, you look at his potential and he's not done that much for sure. If Dante is still similar next year then i'll be off his bandwagon but i still think he can be a real good starter.
 
unless someone throws him some crazy deal. I think/hope he'll stay but i'm more confident about Gordon staying than him.
 
Exum was the last guy I wanted the Jazz to draft in 14, I was way against him but once we drafted him I obviously hoped for him to succeed. I saw a little glimpse his rookie year with his defense and speed, but losing out his second year was the worst thing for his career. I'm not impressed when I do see him on the court, he doesn't contribute all that much and it doesnt feel like he is that 'elite defender' we saw in his rookie year.
He should get minutes in the D league just so he can play and get some real game time experience.
I hope he comes around, that 2014 season was incredibly painful and that pick was suppose to make it all worth it
