I was listening to Locke's Morning Tip off and he revealed some pretty interesting info about how last night's trades went down and what went on in the green room before the pick.

Listen from 7.00min onwards as he recounted the way it went down. Very interesting insights.

In case you're too lazy to listen (don't blame you, LOL), below is a summary of what he said regarding what happened.

Before the draft

- Jazz were interested in Cody Zeller and Trey Burke

Back Story

- Jazz usually run a "Jazz 100" where they have guards/wings take 100 3pters..
- Jazz put Kelly Olynyk on that, and he hits 63 of 100 3pters, which is the 2nd amount of 3's anyone hit
- Jazz were impressed and wanted him to complete the front court team with Kanter/Favors as a stretch 4
- Jazz were set on taking Kelly Olynyk at #14

Draft Day - Prior to Draft

- Kevin O'Connor discovered something before the draft that sent them for a loop
- Locke thinks that Jazz had heard that Boston had trade with DAL at #13 to go get Kelly Olynyk
- This means we would have missed out on Olynyk at #14
- Then they heard that Philly had traded away Jrue Holliday to NO - so they'll need a PG
- Meaning McCollum, Burke and MCW would be gone by the time the Jazz pick
- So we were looking at missing out on Olynyk and any PG that we wanted
- They were able to "prepare" for what was going to transpire 'before' the draft actually happened.

Draft Day

- Then on draft day, KCP went to Detroit
- Meaning Minny would go for Bazz - so the "deal is On"
- In the next 5 min, due to "insane preparation", Jazz was able to get a deal done with Minny
- Jazz reacted and prepared to deal with Minny with their 2 draft picks

Change Minny to Detroit.

But this is all why I am thankful for the Celtics moving ahead to get Olynk. My gut feeling is Jazz would have stood pat if they knew he was there at 14.

Thanks bro!! LOL!!

Yes you're right re Olynyk, much happier with Burke.

Yes, I didn't realize what you were talking about with that until I watched Locke's podcast.

Burke is going to be a long-time starter and one of the top 10 PGs in the league. This is virtually a best-case scenario.

Now we need an elite athletic forward or swingman, and there are several in the 2014 draft.

Agreed. This sets us up perfectly.

Also that Marvin Williams trade is now looking more and more like it was a planned move. Marvin helps us out again next season, while we wait for a SF from the '14 draft.

Unfortunately he's injure, so may be we'll just simply re-sign DeMarre.

I know I am in the minority but I would not have minded KO. I think he will be a serviceable big for years to come. Better to have a 9th pick but for a 14 that is plenty good.
