It looked to me he had gotten by the defender in the middle of a clear path to the hoop when the whistle blew and half a second later the shot was up. No one stopped playing. No one has that good of a reaction time. He would’ve scored.

AD is certainly making some kind of play there. He is in perfect position but literally stops playing.

I think to assume AD swats that you have to think that AD saw Hardy call timeout while also processing everything going on during the play. And he might have, but the first whistle you hear is when Sexton is completely past the defender. If that is right when AD stopped then he maybe gets it or bothers it enough that it misses. He does have to make a move though and while I think Sexton is likely thinking shot first he also is very capable of making the read.

The mistake was really not calling timeout with 5-6 seconds left. At that point you have to live with the result of the play. Sexton retreats at 3.1 which is when Hardy calls the timeout, but a retreat dribble doesn't mean he is stuck there at all. Its a way to get space or blow by a guy (as he did). If he was doubled and truly stuck I understand the timeout... he was setting up the move. Since Hardy wasn't on top of the ref you get 2.1 instead of 3.1 seconds but that doesn't matter much. Have to trust Sexton there once it got past 5-6 second mark imo. Hardy got caught in the air.

Also, I ain't mad at all lol. Perfect result. We can claim victory and it goes down as an L. Long live the Tank.

I'm pretty sure Hardy decided to call the timeout at the point when he saw Sexton going sideways with Rui in front of him. I mean I don't think he would've done it after Sexton had already passed Rui (that's when we heard the whistle). But whatever, a nice L for the draft.

Correct he said he tried to call timeout when he made a retreat dribble... which is with 3.1 seconds left. The first whistle is heard once Sexton is all the way in front of Rui at 2.1 seconds. At 5-6 seconds as the ball is crossing half court is the time to decide there is no advantage and call timeout imo. Even though Sexton is going sideways its still better than a SLOB play with 2-3 seconds left. If we had a closer I get it but with the ball in hand I don't think there is anyone better than Sexton on the roster. I think its just the coach micromanaging the situation. They are control freaks.

Its also execution... you can't have any pause between when you start to call the timeout and when its granted. So he needed to start at halfcourt rather than hanging out in the coaches box. He's still developing too. its a tremendous L so ain't gonna cry.

Just watched the replay like 5 times. Davis was flat footed the moment the whistle blew. And Davis was hesitant to leave Kessler, plus if Davis steps up it’s an easy dump off for a wide *** open dunk for Kessler. He didn’t stop playing. Look at the body language. His body didn’t relax till well after the shot.

I think he was in the act of calling timeout as it looked like Sexton was cut off with no where to go Hardy had to run out on the court just to get the refs attention. So I don’t think it was silly. He saw his guy trapped called time, Sexton got untrapped and by the time Hardy got the refs attention the ref blew the whistle just as Sexton got free. I myself didn’t think Sexton would get that open.

Just like all those other times he did that.

Of the first, in which he hustled from his seats to the Jazz bench about a minute before halftime and shouted at coach Jerry Sloan to bench some players he thought weren't performing, referring partly to Karl Malone, Miller said his original intention was to leave the area. The Jazz basket at the time was near his front-row seats. "I found myself being too distressed about a couple of our guys' performance, and I didn't want to holler something harmful to them," he said. "That would have been stupid. Instead, I went to the other corner and hollered something stupid."

Miller yelled to Sloan, "We've got some guys that didn't show up tonight. I put a couple of other words with it," he said. "He didn't hear me the first time. I repeated it. My exact words referring to those who hadn't showed up: `They should be on the bench.' "
