Game Thread Dec 19, 2022 05:00PM MT: Jazz at Cavaliers

Added to Calendar: 12-19-22

Jazz are officially the worst team in the league when it comes to defending the paint and controlling the defensive glass. Not great news against a team that starts Mobley and Allen. Cavs are going to get a ton of second chance shots tonight is my guess. Hopefully Kessler can take another step tonight in his development.

Add in Donovan's motivation to play well against his former team and this is going to be a really difficult game. We really needed all hands on deck here. Having Sexton at least would've put more pressure on the basket. KO wouldn't help much defensively but having another big who can hit 3's may have moved someone like Mobley more out to the perimeter. Cavs main weakness is they don't have an NBA caliber SF on their roster. Maybe someone like Beasley can keep them in the game if he has a hot shooting night. Obviously JC and Lauri will also need to have good shooting games in order to win tonight too.

Not all is lost though. This team keeps surprising me but pulling this one out would be a fairly big upset. The Cavs are really good at home this season while the Jazz are 6-10 on the road after that loss in Milwuakee.

Yeah, not getting my hopes up too much. Lauri needs spacing for his curls and cuts to the middle, and all season Olynyk has been one of the few Jazz players providing it. Markkanen facing a set defense ready to collapse on him AND featuring Mobley & Allen as rim protectors sounds like a nightmare for him.

Why would you hope that?
Either to get verification it doesnt work or hope that it might.

If Vando just cannot play 4, then its a flexibility lock between him and Kessler that we need to break (probably by trading V).

I dont like Lauri at 4 as much as I like him at the wing or center. And he has absolutely 0 shot of getting minutes at 5 if we got 2 guys who cant play anything but 5.

Wait... does this make Rudy Gay..... a starter?

The obvious move is to start Kessler. But i know hardy has a rule that vando and kessler cant play together.
In that case i would still start kessler and bring vando off the bench.

Conley, clarkson, beasley, lauri, kessler

Vando can't play the 4. You have to be able to space the floor in that role. Sure he can stand in the corner but his defender will be roaming somewhere else.

I think 3’s are usually better floor spacers than 4’s.

I bet on one of Don or Garland not playing a lot in this one. I think this is the night Levert goes for 35, and the Finnisher looks to prove something against his old team. Would not surprise me if one of the Mobley Allen duo sits this one out also though.

I can't believe he actually said he's thankful to the Mavs. If he hated being on the Jazz so badly that he's glad the Mavs beat us in the first-round last year so that he could be traded, then I'm definitely glad he's gone. No wonder he played so awful in that series, he most likely wasn't even trying.

What a ****ing clown. Dude is so insecure. He can’t keep Utah and the Jazz out of his mouth.

I’m also having a lot more fun watching games now that he’s gone. What a Coincidence!!!

Can you all imagine what the start of the season would’ve been like had we failed to trade him? Holy **** man!!! The jazz saved him from himself. Lol
