None of those options are that great. By standing under the rim he clogs the paint by allowing his (big) defender to patrol the area.

People can squint as much as they like, but it won't turn Walker Kessler into a useful offensive player until he acquires some actual ball skills.

I don't understand what your point is. His defender can patrol the rim anywhere he is on the court. Kessler is only a threat at the rim and that's why he should be around the rim instead of away from it. It is a useful thing to have a rim running big. It is not useful to have a non shooting big be on the perimeter.
