What's new

DeMar DeRozan?

Teams - especially ones like the Jazz - need to be getting more value out of their players than what the players are paid. We've already seen the consequences of what two really bad/unnecessary contracts have done to a very good and promising team (AK, Memo). This applies as much to Hayward as it does anyone else on the roster. The good part of this is I think the rest of the league is figuring that out and figuring out that draft picks are actually worth a ****, which hopefully begins to depress the RFA market from a buyer's prospective.

if your not familliar with DeRozans improvement, check out #3,

this is why all comparisons to burks must end, apples and oranges

DeRozan is seriously expendable right now-- meaning the Jazz could really capitalize here. He isn't a star player, and his shooting isn't great, but he could realllllyy fit within an offense along the likes of Burke, Hayward, and Millsap.

Burke
DeRozan
Hayward
Millsap
Favors

6th man: Kanter

Good passing from 1-5 (Favors has shown marked improvement here-- not going off stats, just intuition) and okay spacing if we re-sign Foye.

Only thing that puts me off is his damn contract. Sheesh

I think I could be convinced to do Burks + filler/crappy pick for DeRozan

i agree Dal, watching the price rise on OJ Mayo and Tyreke Evans the past few days, has convinced me DeRozan is on sale, and thats for all teams

DeRozan appears to be a great fit for Utah.

we can give him space, and im sure he doesnt want to play hero ball as the Raptors asked of him, he wants to obiliterate teams, this kid didnt have energy for defense, i bet hes better on D than hes credited for (certainly he can improve)

this is a good kid... he plays in lots of NBA players charity games, and makes a point to put on a show dunking...

hes from compton, this kid will not backdown, this is a world class athlete, i believe hes just begun to scratch the surface

Look at #3 of those top 10 plays i just posted

he loses Danny Green on the perimeter which is tough by itself, the whole defense collapses on him, he dribbles thru it and takes on Duncan, misses the shot but is in the best position to get the rebound, puts it back with 0.7 seconds left

it angres me that people are going to use advanced stats to debunk his effectiveness, too much was being asked of this player(he was picking up the slack of the vets/bigger $$ guys), especially considering his age, in a healthy system, with the proper shooters around him this kid could flourish

also DeRozan for a player of that weight and explosiveness has proven to be quite durable

started every game in college

and has started 292 out of 304 games in the pros, those 12 games he didnt start were all in his rookie season

as a rookie he shot .498 FG%

as his role has increased in the offense thats gone down,

DeRozan grabs boards, and shoots 80% from the line

he also gets to the line, a ton...

heres the top 10 of free throw attempts last year

1 James Harden, 792
2 Kevin Durant, 750
3 Dwight Howard, 721
4 Kobe Bryant, 626
5 Russell Westbrook, 575
6 LeBron James, 535
7 Carmelo Anthony, 512
8 DeMar DeRozan, 427
9 Blake Griffin, 426
10 Dwyane Whistle, 425

Comparing Alec to anyone but Nick Young is a stretch. He'll never be at DeMar's level.

I still wouldn't want him for Burks + Marvin, even though that preserves flexibility this year. Unless a draft pick is included, but they can't offer it until draft night next summer.

I like DeRozan talent. I think his shooting has improved (or seems that way). The Jazz had no answer for him when we played the Raptors in Toronto. However, hi price tag is a little high. I think he is a 6-7 million a year guy. How are the Jazz going to be able to afford paying our guys if they start over paying for other players. Unless Hayward has a huge season I think 8 million max and I would like it to be closer to 6.5 -7 million and raises each year. Or even front load Hayward's contract so at the end they will be able to offer Kanter and Burks (if he pans out) contracts.

you pay the guys by going over the luxury tax... we can re-sign Burke and Gobert (in 2018/19) even if were over the cap

Favors and Kanter's QO is about 8mil, so they wont be getting that big of a raise from that...

if hayward is had for 10 mil per

and burks is flipped into a new rookie contract (this is key, we cannot resign another SG like burks if Derozans here for 9.5)

that coveres the core 4 around 40 mil, til like 2017-2019 depending on the year they were rookies

Derozan, whether he Opts in or out of his player option in 16/17 will be off the books before Gobert and Burke need new contracts

the jazz have PLENTY of wiggle room

dont worry about the $$$, its not your $$$

everyone knows the best kind of money is OPM (Other Peoples Money)

yall trying to save the millers a few bucks, they want to deliver a championship more than $$$ upfront (or $$$ saved)

anything less is cutting off your nose to spite your face

the Western conference champs paid a 35 year old, 6thman $14,107,492 last year.

i think we can afford 23 year old DeRozan at 9.5 for 2 or 3 years, he probably opts out and renegotiates as a 25 year old, with tons of leverage

felt like bumping this DeRozan is balling in the playoffs.

He finished the season 9th in scoring, an All-Star, and with a better 3point % than Hayward (.305 to .304)

Well, looks like I was wrong about DeRozan not being a star.

Dude's been ballin all season.

Derozan reminds me of burks ;-)

Btw, burks was better from 3 point range this year than derozan and hayward

Burks shot 35% from 3, hayward and derozan both shot 30%.

Derozan shot 42% from the field..... hayward shot 41% from the field.....
Burks shot 45% from the field.

Random Fact: I was at the LAX (Los Angeles Airport) Post Office and I see this pimped out SUV parked. This older black man exits and walks into the post office wearing a Raptors jersey with the name "DeRozan's Dad" on the back.

I read on slcdunk, that if you take away the many full-court last-second end-of-quarter threes he took, Burks shot almost 38% from deep this year.
