DeMarre Carroll - the travelin' man

Stifle Tower

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
With all the talk about the draft, I haven't seen this posted. Looks like DMC has taken the torch from Jeremy Evans and is on the road doing the Jazz clinics. Probably the first time children in towns such as Tabiona, Altamont and Santaquin have seen a man with dreadlocks. Seriously, I think this is a good indication DMC will be back with Utah. Not a guarantee, because he becomes a FA 3 days after the clinics end. But just the fact he's doing the clinics, without having a contract in hand, likely indicates the FO has talked to his agent about bringing him back. And with the injury to Marvin Williams, I think there's even a stronger chance they'll give him a new contract once they're able to. https://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsjazznotes/56455942-62/june-jazz-carroll-brigham.html.csp

Did you see the pictures of a kid in a 1998 Jacque Vaugn Jersey waiting to meet De'Marre?

Those Jr. Jazz trips have got to provide so many potentially life changing experiences for so many people, including the player.

I wish Alec Burks and Hayward would do a few. Kanter would benifit too.

This man is showing loyalty to the organization when they have not publicly done so for him (they can't yet). That is on top of the heart, hustle, fight and grit he provided in full on the court. If they do not sign him to a contract for the next couple years (2-3) then it is a slap in the face to him.

I remember when I was a kid how excited I was to meet pro athletes. Back in the days, my sister's now ex-husband was a friend of several hockey players. Sure, it was only minor-league hockey (at that time, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles), but I was thrilled when a truck pulled up in front of the house, and out jumped a couple of players I had watched in many games, with autographed sticks and a couple of pucks for me. Didn't matter that those players never played in the NHL. I kept those sticks and pucks in my room for YEARS!

The key part of that phrase is they can't yet. They can't even discuss a contract without being fined by the league (or having draft picks taken away). The only thing that will get in the way of a contract is him being given more money by another organization. DMC is in a prefect position. He knows he'll get PT this season, as Marvin is hurt and the Jazz won't be signing big name FA's. I'm sure agents are also aware of what happens if the Jazz remain under the salary floor. That could be a selling point for young FA's - i.e. the chance of getting an additional bonus check at the end of the year.

I know they cannot. Just pointing out his public loyalty to a club that connot return the favor. Not many players do that. Makes me like him even more. I hope that the club has told him privately that they wish to sign him.

They all do the clinics. Even Deron did them when he was here. Deron didn't do as many as the young/less important player, but he still did them. And the bigger the star, the less far you travel as well.

It's funny. Kanter and Favors were told, "you will do this clinic on this day in this location." Deron was told, "you need to do one clinic. Where and when do you want to do it?"

Right. And that's what I also meant. DeMarre has shown tremendous loyalty and I'll bet KOC/Lindsey have told his agent they want to discuss a deal as soon as they are allowed to. For me, guys like Evans and Carroll are priorities, even if they aren't in the rotation. You couldn't ask for better teammates, or examples of what hard work can do. Both have EARNED contracts. I think these types of players set the tone for practices and for the young players coming in.

We just have to smart. Reward DMC without making the contract so long or large that is would seriously hurt of future plans. I would prefer a 2 year 6 mil deal. But something in 7.5 to 8 range over 3 years could work. In end he is the 3rd wing on a bad team and the 4th or 5th on a good one.

I want DMC back as much as anybody but I doubt he gets much over the vet minimum, this year I believe DMC's vet minimum would be right around 1mil so I'm guessing he gets a little over that. So for example and keeping it simple lets just say the vet minimum is 1mil I would think the Jazz would offer 1.5 over 3yr (last year player option) so with the yearly percentage increase scale that would be about a 3yr 5mil contract which is exactly what he's worth IMO.

I'd find out what Burks is worth by dangling him in trade talks and give DeMarre double to triple the value of whatever would be coming back (like a #24 rookie scale salary). Seems about the right area.

We need his energy, and heart off the bench.
There were questions about his talent(I was dead wrong), and his questionable remarks he made the to press about
auditioning for other teams.

I think through last year he proved he worth, and his desire to be here/contribute to the community etc.
He's coming back.

DeMarre Carroll needs to be Utah's #1 priority this offseason. Great player on and off the court. Players like DeMarre who know their role, and thrive while doing it are pretty hard to come by. I love him too much to say goodbye already.

And to us, as fans who like his heart, hustle, fight, and grit.

Unless his contract is absurd and unless he doesn't want to come back, I'll be extremely pissed if DMC isn't back here next year.

In many ways, DMC is like what we used to have with Millsap. A guy who gives 100% effort and has improved every season. Two years ago, I used to cringe when DeMarre would shoot. Now. he actually has decent range. I don't think he'll ever be a starter, but there's no reason he can't be part of a deep bench.
