Yeah, you folks just love spending other people's money. Fact remains that the cap is going up a MAX of 30% from last year. Add on next year where it will go up another 20%. So, some teams will over pay on salary to get their guy, but raises should be projected for 30% - a 50% on the very high.
If someone is giving a player more than a 40% raise, then it is money I wouldn't be willing to spend.
Solomon Hill is on a rookie salary, so his value may normally be about $3 - $5 million before this inflation. If his stock is high due to drama d green flexibility, perhaps you could see him make $5.5 as a terrible contract for a dumb team. Now, add 50% to that and we are talking $4.5 low analysis to $7.5 high analysis. Anything beyond that is absurd. If he makes $13 million, then leave him for the piranhas of the league. They will regret it as usual (see knicks for the last 15 years) and wait to bargain shop.
If everyone spends like that, there just isn't enough money folks. If you get a cap to go up 30% but you give people a 80-200% raise like many suggest... you run out of cash. GMs arent that dumb. There will be funny money. You betcha. But they will reget it.
My proposal is for high quality vets like Gasol and Deng for funny money to reach the floor and to give us vet presence aND to ensure we get it. Perhaps a steal with someone who felt left out of the tea party. Call it a summer.
