Dennis Lindsey's Comments on May 1st

@austinhorton: Dennis Lindsey says the right thing for the Jazz MAY end up being "to punt on the draft entirely" and focus on pieces they already have.

@austinhorton: "We've got a pretty good center in Derrick, and we're pinching ourselves a little bit with the bigs we DO have." Dennis Lindsey on Tomic

@austinhorton: "Rudy...gives all the players a comfort and a mindset to be aggressive because they've got 'big brother' behind them." Dennis Lindsey

@austinhorton: "We wanted to go into this offseason with as few nicks, bumps, and bruises as humanly possible." Dennis Lindsey

@austinhorton: "We learned that Rodney Hood can be a big piece of what we're doing going forward, on both ends of the court." Dennis Lindsey

@austinhorton: "We learned that Bryce Cotton can really shoot the ball and is really fast." Dennis Lindsey

@austinhorton: "The biggest need right now is for EVERYONE to come back and improve." Dennis Lindsey on Jazz needs heading into the summer.

@austinhorton: "I learned @Elijah_Millsap is one tough...ahem...hombre...and he's a no-nonsense type guy." Dennis Lindsey

Nice post, Batman. The consensus I hear is that the Jazz could use a back-up big who can shoot. So Looney/Kaminsky/Portis would make some sense. For Lindsey to make comments this direct sounds to me like he's inviting offers and is ready to start discussions. I doubt the Jazz punt on their pick. Free agency is too uncertain at this point and the draft is a free chance to add talent.

I have no idea what he means by punt on the pick... does he mean trade it for future picks or does that mean use it to acquire a vet. Maybe on draft night its going to come to 12 and he just going "no thanks we're good."

Definitely think he's soliciting offers. Not a bad tactic. Sounds like they're high on Hood and Millsap. Add Jingles and we have our wings. No PGs worth taking at 12. Maybe they think Pleiss would be better than any big they could get including Kaminsky. Trade the pick for a top-3 protected pick in 2016 or 2017 since I doubt anyone would make it completely unprotected.

Probably not significant but trading the pick frees up another 2M+ in cap space, IINM.

The Tomic discussion was not what I expected. DoL said they had heard the reports, but had not yet seen an offer sheet or contract (do nba teams normally see the offer sheets or contracts of their foreign draft picks?) and that Tomic's American agent had not talked with Ante.

At this point my speculation was DoL is leaving the door open for Tomic to come.

Then he shut the door again. He continued: we have a good starting center, and Derrick has played really well as the center so perhaps are needs are met and we can fill in with other assets like Pleiss or free agency. And somewhere in there he mentioned how Ante wants to play.

So like a skilled politician, Dennis answered a question with many words and left his audience with less sure conclusions. Bravo, well played Mr. O'Lindsey.

I mean, I get that Millsap is good at defense despite fouling a lot, but his offense is assuredly D-League talent.

It's not like DL is saying we've waited all these years for the coming of Elijah. He'll be the 5th wing. Even if the Jazz were to stand pat, Hayward, Hood and Burks will get the majority of the minutes with some going to Jingles. That's a pretty good rotation. I don't understand why so many are anxious to throw Burks or Hood away or cut them back to 15 mins/per. I don't see a real need for a wing.

Trade for a vet, trade down, or trade it for a future pick.
He might be nervous picking at #12 this year, a lot of very raw players (Looney, Turner, Oubre) that are 3 years away from contributing (if ever). Does he want to put Quin through that?
The Jazz have two second round picks, the 42nd and 54th. He could roll the dice on one of them being decent, or use them both to move up into the 25- 30 range and grab a Justin Anderson, a Cliff Alexander, or a Vezenkov.

Given Hood's rookie season, there will likely be many games where he is unable to play.

I've never had a problem with how O'Connor or Lindsey handle these interviews (Layden was another matter). I DO get frustrated with radio personalities that ask the questions. They ask terrible questions. They're either too open-ended, or something that can't be answered publicly. Most of the time they just ask questions that fans couldn't care less about like "how hard is it to select the right person in the draft?" or "how important is character?"

One time someone (I think it was Locke) asked O'Connor "how close have you come to making a trade in the last month?" And O'Connor said "we had a player in for a physical". Wow! Anyway, I found it interesting, and it didn't reveal anything that couldn't be made public. And he never would have volunteered if Locke had just asked him about his Summer vacation to Europe.

Currently having some diarrhea. I feel you Hood.
