What's new

Derrick Favors' family has moved to Atlanta.

Listening to the dunk'd on podcast and right at the end they're projecting around the MLE for Favors, which is 9 or so million and if Utah offers 2/23, it might be his best offer.

Not sure Favors fits into Atlanta's timeline, either. They have one of the Plumlees at 12.5 million a year for awhile. Hard to have that much salary in centers. Works for Utah as Gobert is worth his contract.

Hawks MIGHT be more of a fit if Dedmon opts out. Have to look for that.

I don't think he fits their timeline either. ATL is gonna tank big time too, and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with Ayton. Plus they drafted John Collins who they are super high on.

I can see Favors signing a 2yr deal if hes convinced he plays deep into the playoffs here, even if that is behind Rudy. Then hitting FA again in 2019/20 when the bad money starts coming off teams books.

Maybe the FO pays slightly overs to keep him around, showing good faith as Favors was seen to have taken a 'team contract' previously. His value as Rudy insurance alone will be hard to replace.

Can we still sign Favors to an extension? It would be nice for him and us to lock him in for 2 years even if we overpay.

Good for Favors to get healthy on a co tract year. He made himself millions. Jazz didn't seem like a fit 12 games ago. Maybe he does now.

I think this means nothing. Signing a contract for 4 more years doesn't necessarily means he wants to settle with his family in the city for the rest of his life.

Since the deadline has passed, won't our expirings be free agents by the time we can trade again?

We don't need to depend on any one individual player's loyalty anymore. This is proven by our survival after Hayward departure, with our draft choice and our recent free agent signings. We are becoming a known and respected franchise with something of value to offer players, and we draft well. If Favors leaves, he will be replaced, we might even already have his replacement on the roster. If he stays, than great, he's a great talent. I'm not saying it wouldn't hurt, but wouldn't break us.

Lets wait for the draft first. For all we know Atlanta will end up with one of Ayton, Bamba and Jackson and won't have any interest in Favors in FA. Alternatively they end up with Donicic and Favors fits perfectly.

Don't want to be too cynical but l think this streak of good health Favors is having is either a fluke or one of those "contract year things."

I'd be a bit hesitant to give him a raise and another multi year deal with his track history of non descript injuries.

I agree. And I don't see Favors putting winning ahead of family/money. He's a good guy but he doesn't have that fire burning inside a la Rudy and Don.
