So on Tony Jones podcast today he and Zach talk about if you have the option to use your MLE on Derrick Favors or Derrick Jones Jr. what would you do?

I lean towards Jones Jr. as much as I love Favs. Jones Jr. is very much what we need and I would love to get him with our MLE if it’s a possibility.

I don’t know who Derrick Jones is, but when I google I assume that’s the guy from the dunk contest?

Even though we do need to start a project on the wing, Derrick Jones Jr has been in the league for quite a while and still couldn't develop a three point shot. Id rather take a gamble on guys like Shaq Harrison or even Josh Jackson on a minimum than spending a MLE on Derrick jones

No to Favors returning, just can't trust his injuries to not be a huge and constant issue.

I'd take Favors btw... I think this is dumb... The response about Shaq Harrison or Josh Jackson is even more bizarre than the thread concept... I'm done here..

Fair Derrick Jones is still just 23, so still very early in the process for him

Tony won’t say a lot because obviously a lot can happen, but I think a Favors reunion is quite likely unless the Jazz find a wing that’s sort of 3 and D that they can use the MLE on

Also, I fully trust Favors staying healthy at 15 minutes a night as a backup, which Tony says he fully understands would be his role and he’s fine with it if he returns.

if you wanna build a project on the wing, don't need to use the MLE. sign Shaq Harrison and Josh Jackson. Both guys should be available at minimum. draft a guy like Paul Reed then sign kahlil whitney from undrafted FA. That's 4 guys with legit size and athleticism available for less than 10mil combined. Even one of them turned into Ronnie Brewer that can help us lock down folks like Dennis Schroder/Jamal Murray/Eric Gordon, we'd be in a much better place for the title race

Well if he is strictly a backup at 15-20 minutes a night, that changes everything.

Derrick Jones Jr is still a project. And the Jazz are trying to contend now. It's not a possibility that makes sense to me. Quin probably wouldn't even put him on the floor because he prefers forwards who can shoot. And Jones Jr can't. The other issue is that a rebuilding team with cap can offer him more than the midlevel and gamble on his improvement. We can't.

A Derrick Favors or Jae Crowder reunion seems likely to me.

Hell Kris Dunn makes more sense than Derrick Jones Jr if we're going the non-shooter route. We could really use his point of attack defense.

Makes more sense for the Jazz to draft a project wing on a rookie scale deal than to pay the MLE to one.
