Just on its surface her story seems very odd.

So, just so we can get the outline right, let's see if I have it.

She was dating Rose for more than a year.

He frequently asked for sexual activities that she refused to engage in.

The date of the incident he drugged her, but she managed to leave before the effects fully kicked in.

Rose and his friends went to her residence, broke in and gang raped her while she was under the influence of the drugs. However, she came in and out of consciousness just enough to know for certain that she was forcefully assaulted by multiple rapists.

She did not file criminal charges.

It has taken years for her to go public.

Is that the story?

Seems accurate to me. BTW, I am not so sure that Jimmy is right that women don't often lie about being raped. People lie about all sorts of things and I see no reason that rape would be any different. I am aware of numerous incidents where women have told lies (including lies about rape) in order to get what they want.

I consider rape one of the most terrible crimes possible, and I absolutely sympathize with victims, but I also think that falsely accusing a man of rape is abhorrent. When the facts don't seem to make sense (like in this case) I can understand why people are skeptical.

One more thing, ever heard of false memories? It is well documented that people can start "remembering" events that never happened. I'm not saying that's the case here, but the fact that she waited so long after physical evidence, alibis, etc. could be collected gives her story a lot less credibility. She might believe she's telling the God's honest truth, and the entire episode might well have occurred only in her mind.

I emphasized one pov because the tone in this thread was one that to me heavily implied that Rose was guilty. And I wasn't saying one party was right. I just asked ppl to refrain public conversation that solely relies on speculation and assumptions derived by other background intel majorly unrelated to said alleged incident, because they heavily impact the lives and reputation of real human.

German law states someone accused of a crime is not guilty until proven otherwise and I heavily dislike the opposite direction!

And if you think I'm unable to relate to the female POV here, I've dated a girl in the past over a long time that had experienced sexual abuse in her young teenager years and never went public with it. I'm simply just puzzled why ppl can't refrain from speculation in such a matter. It's also questionable how that record went public. The person who decided to leak that to the press is a pretty big a-hole in my eyes. That's something that shouldn't become public until a judge/jury has ruled that case or it was settled.

I can see both POVs as well. A friend of mine's career was nearly ruined by a false accusation of sexual harassment. He struggled to find work for quite some time as a Dr. and now the best he can do is a position is some one horse shiite hole in rural Texas.

I prefer to let the facts come out. I am aware that women do make false accusations of sexual assault (I'm not THAT naive), but I'm also aware that for every false accusations are probably dozens, if not more, actual sexual assaults.

I think if you've read enough about the 'political economy' of rape/sexual assault, you'll realize that women have all sorts of motivations for not coming forward right away or for reacting differently, even in ways that occur to those of us who have never been sexually assaulted (let alone by powerful men or women) as kind of strange.

I think we're probably mostly in agreement on this topic, but it sounds like you're willing to give a little more latitude to the woman than I am and it also sounds like you think false accusations are more rare than I do. My thinking is that if someone is going to make such a devastating accusation they simply have to do it while evidence and testimonies are fresh. That said, I can understand why it might take a while for a victim to come forward... and I'm certain you are correct that many victims never do. While a guilty man deserves the hell he's bound to go through as a result of this process, an innocent man certainly does not.

In the case of Rose, whether this story is true or not, at this point there is very little he can do to defend himself against the accusation, and it's likely to be associated with him and his reputation for life no matter how the case is ultimately settled.

Well, it said she escaped with a friend. The friend could have driven her home. It is strange that she would wait two years. "She claims she waited for two years to file the suit because she was “ashamed and embarrassed” of what happened and concerned her “conservative family” would find out." She was worried about her conservative family finding out? Did they all die last year or move to a monastery? Because they certainly know now what happened.

I'm not saying she's lying. Just the part of her story that is in that article seems very, very suspicious.

The two years is the least of it for me. I just find it odd that on top of drugging her Rose and his friends went to her house and broke in to get what they were after. I mean, how hard is a person...and his friends... work to "date" rape a girl? Especially a pro athlete who presumably can find other women to date rape.

... I'm gonna try and tread lightly here, because of the subject matter. If you go look at the details that leaked from this case a day or 2 ago.

You will see that the female was consenting, and Derrick Rose was a part of the group of dudes involved.

She was also looking to be reimbursed for an item that was used on said night. D.Rose stopped responding to her texts/calls, then she filed a lawsuit.

to clarify a little bit - - according to Rose, she was not a girlfriend per se; they were in a consensual relationship but it was not an "exclusive" relationship - - they were both also apparently involved with others during this time as well

All that I can say, this type of behavior, having sex with one lady along with his buddies, is a reflection of the despicable kind of character Rose is. So what if it's consensual, it's crude and nothing to be proud of. I sure wouldn't want it to be publicized if I engaged in such behavior. He's a pig, pure and simple.
